Vertical Broaching Machine Product

Overview

Broaching cuts a finished form in a single linear pass. The tool, a broach, is a long bar carrying a row of teeth, each one a few thousandths of a millimetre taller than the one before. As the machine draws the broach through or across the work, every tooth takes its own thin chip, and the last teeth leave the part at final size. One stroke does what milling or shaping would need many passes for, which makes broaching the fastest way to cut keyways, internal splines, square and hexagon holes, and odd external contours in production. The catch is the tool: a broach is long, expensive and dedicated to one form, so broaching pays off in volume.

This is a vertical pull-down machine. The work sits on a fixed Worktable & Fixture with a passage hole, located and clamped by the Part Fixture. Above it the Ram & Slide carries the Broach Holder & Puller, which automatically grips the broach pull-end. On the down stroke the ram draws the broach through the part; an upper retriever then catches it and hands it back for the next cycle.

How it works

The cutting force is large and must be steady, so the ram is driven either by a servo and ball screw or, on heavy machines, by the Hydraulic Cylinder fed from the Hydraulic Power Pack. That power pack runs a motor-driven pump, an accumulator to hold pressure, and a Valve Block of solenoid valves that sequence the clamps and the stroke. Because a broach throws heavy chips, the Chip Handling system floods the teeth with coolant and carries the swarf away on a conveyor.

The Control ties it together. Its PLC Controller clamps the part, confirms the broach is coupled and the Guards & Enclosure are closed, then commands the cutting stroke at a controlled speed and a fast return. The Light Curtain guards the stroke zone and stops motion if anyone reaches in. Load a part, press cycle, and the machine pulls the full form in one pass before the broach climbs back, retriever-caught, ready to repeat.
