Overview

A press brake bends sheet and plate metal by pressing a Top Punch into the groove of a Bottom V-Die. The sheet is laid across the lower die, and as the upper beam descends the metal folds to a controlled angle set by how deep the punch enters the V. It is the standard machine for turning flat blanks into boxes, brackets, enclosures and structural profiles. This model is a down-acting CNC hydraulic brake: two hydraulic cylinders drive the ram, and a four-axis control positions both the ram and the workpiece automatically from a stored part program.

The whole machine reacts large forces through a stiff Welded Steel C-Frame. Two C-shaped Side Frame plates tie the fixed Lower Bed to the moving Upper Beam (Ram), so the bending load circulates through the weldment rather than springing the machine open. The frame is stress-relieved after welding to hold geometry over its service life.

How it works

Force comes from the Hydraulic Drive, a pair of Hydraulic Cylinder units mounted at each end of the ram. The Hydraulic Power Unit feeds them: a pump motor turns a variable pump that draws oil from the tank, while Proportional Valve units meter flow to each cylinder under closed-loop command. A Linear Encoder (Y axis) on each side reports ram height, so the Y1 and Y2 axes can be driven independently to keep the beam parallel and hit the programmed bottom-dead-center within hundredths of a millimetre.

Because a long ram and bed deflect under load, a Crowning System system lifts the bed center with graduated wedges to cancel that bow and keep the bend angle uniform across the full length. Behind the dies, the motorised Back Gauge sets where the operator butts the sheet: its X axis fixes flange depth and the R axis sets finger height, both on ballscrew servo drives.

The CNC Control ties it together. A SoC-based control board runs the bend sequence, drives the back-gauge servos and modulates the hydraulic valves, and the operator programs parts on a touchscreen HMI. Operator protection is handled by the Safety System system, whose laser guard tracks the descending tool and stops the ram if a hand enters the danger zone, backed by emergency stops and a guarded Foot Pedal that the operator uses to inch the ram down through each bend.
