Warp Sizing Machine Product

Overview

A warp sizing machine prepares the warp sheet for the loom by coating every end with a thin film of size, a starch or synthetic adhesive. Weaving subjects the warp to constant abrasion and flexing at the healds and reed; bare spun yarn would shed fibre and break under that punishment. Sizing binds the surface fibres down and lays a protective film over each end so it can pass through thousands of weaving cycles without failing. It is the last and most decisive warp-preparation step: a badly sized warp will weave badly no matter how good the loom.

The machine is a continuous line. A wide sheet of many thousand ends is unwound from several beams, run through a hot size bath, squeezed to set the amount of size taken up, dried, separated and wound onto a single weaver's beam, all under tension held close enough that the fragile wet size film is never stretched or broken.

How it works

The warp sheet is drawn off the Creel & Beam Unwind, where several back beams are combined into one full-width sheet under controlled back-tension. It passes into the Size Box, a heated trough where immersion rollers dip the sheet fully into the size paste and loaded squeeze rollers then press the size into the yarn core and wring out the surplus, setting the all-important add-on. A circulation pump and trough heaters keep the size at temperature and level.

The wet sheet wraps over the Drying Cylinders cylinders, a bank of steam-heated drums whose hot surfaces drive off the water and set the size film; the first cylinders carry a non-stick coating so the tacky sheet does not cling. At the Leasing & Headstock the dried sheet is split by lease rods to part any ends stuck together, spread to width by an expansion comb, and wound onto the weaver's beam under a press roller, with a measuring roller counting the length.

Throughout, the Tension Control control uses dancer rollers and load sensors to hold each zone steady, while a moisture sensor trims drying. The Sizing Control coordinates the section speeds, holds tension and add-on to the recipe, and switches the heaters and pump through its relays.
