Cone Crusher Product

Overview

A cone crusher reduces hard rock and ore by squeezing it between a gyrating cone and a fixed bowl. It is the workhorse of secondary and tertiary crushing in aggregate and mining plants, taking pre-crushed feed from a jaw or gyratory and producing a tighter, more cubical product. The crushing surfaces — a manganese mantle on the moving head and a manganese concave in the bowl — form an annular cavity that narrows toward the bottom, so rock is nipped repeatedly as it falls through and exits at the closed-side setting (CSS).

Unlike a jaw crusher's reciprocating stroke, a cone crusher works by gyration: the head's axis sweeps a small circle while the head itself does not spin much, so every point on the cavity closes and opens once per revolution. That continuous nipping action, run choke-fed, gives high throughput and good shape control. Hydraulics set the CSS and protect the machine: a tramp-release circuit lets the whole crushing surface lift to pass uncrushable steel, then resets.

How it works

Power enters through the Motor Drive, where a large induction motor turns the Countershaft Assembly through a V-belt set. The countershaft carries a pinion that meshes with the bevel gear inside the Eccentric Assembly. As the eccentric bushing rotates around the fixed Main Shaft, its offset bore swings the head, producing the gyration. The whole drivetrain reacts into the Main Frame & Base, a cast steel frame and base sized for the crushing load.

The crushing is done between two parts. The Crushing Head & Mantle is the gyrating head, capped with a replaceable manganese mantle and seated on a spherical head ball at the shaft top. Around it sits the Bowl & Concave — a manganese concave liner held in a threaded bowl. Rock fed through the Feed Assembly is spread over the cavity and crushed as the gap closes against the bowl.

Hydraulics make the machine adjustable and self-protecting. The Hydraulic System drives cylinders that rotate the adjustment ring to set CSS as liners wear, and tie-down cylinders backed by nitrogen accumulators that hold the bowl down but yield to lift it and pass tramp metal. Throughout, the Lubrication System floods the eccentric, bushings, head ball and gears with cooled, filtered oil, while the Dust Seal Ring keeps crushing fines out of that oil. The Control Panel runs the motor starter and watches hydraulic pressure, oil temperature and cavity level to hold a steady choke feed.
