Portable Induction Cooktop Product

Overview

A portable induction cooktop heats a pot directly by magnetic induction rather than by warming a surface the pot then touches. Under the Ceramic-Glass Top sits the Induction Coil Assembly, a flat spiral of copper litz wire. The Power Board drives that coil with a high-frequency current; the alternating field passes straight through the non-magnetic glass and induces eddy currents in the steel base of the pot, so the cookware itself becomes the heating element. Because nearly all the heat is made in the pot, the glass stays comparatively cool, the response is fast, and efficiency is high. The unit is operated from the Control Panel and kept in range by the Cooling System airflow, all carried in the Housing.

How it works

Mains power is rectified to a DC bus on the Power Board, and a single IGBT Power Module switches that bus through the coil at tens of kilohertz. The coil forms a resonant tank with the Resonant Capacitor, and the Microcontroller sets cooking power by varying how the IGBT is driven. Beneath the Copper Winding, the Ferrite Bars concentrate the magnetic flux upward into the pot and shield the electronics underneath from the field.

The cooktop will only run with suitable cookware present. The Pot-Detect Sensor watches the electrical loading the pot places on the coil; with no ferrous pot, or one lifted away, the inverter shuts off rather than radiating into empty air. Surface temperature is read by the Coil Thermistor pressed to the glass, which lets the controller hold a set temperature and cut power back if the glass approaches its limit. The Control Panel reads capacitive keys through the glass with a Touch Digitizer and shows power, temperature, and timer on the LCD Panel, with the Buzzer confirming presses. Switching this much current makes heat in the IGBT, so the Blower Motor pulls room air across the Heatsink and past the coil; a screen on the intake keeps grease and dust out of the bay.
