Floor Buffer/Polisher Product

Overview

The floor buffer is a single-disc rotary machine that scrubs, buffs, and polishes hard floors. A mains motor mounted vertically over a cast deck drives a horizontal pad against the floor, and the operator steers from a long tilting handle. By raising or lowering that handle slightly, the operator tips the spinning pad so its torque walks the machine left or right, which is how a buffer is guided across a floor with almost no pushing effort.

The pad is interchangeable: aggressive brushes and pads for scrubbing, soft pads for spray-buffing and polishing. A gear reduction trades motor speed for the high torque a wide pad needs at the floor.

How it works

Power comes from the Drive Motor, a single-phase induction motor with a run capacitor mounted vertically over the deck. Its output drives the Reduction Gearbox, a reduction stage that steps the motor's speed down to the low pad speed of a buffer while multiplying torque, turning an output spindle below the deck.

The spindle carries the Pad Driver, a quick-change plate that locks on and grips the pad. A flexible coupling lets the pad follow small floor undulations instead of chattering, and the Buffing Pad/Brush itself — a brush or polishing pad chosen for the job — does the actual work against the floor.

The operator works from the Handle Assembly, a tubular handle whose locking tilt pivot sets working height; tipping it is what makes the pad walk the machine sideways. Running the motor requires the Operator Controls: dual triggers that must both be held, plus a lockout that blocks accidental starts. These feed the Switch & Interlock Board, which energizes the motor through a contactor only when the interlocks are satisfied.

When the pad is lifted, tilt-down Transport Wheel let the machine roll between rooms. The motor, gearbox, and pad are carried in the cast Deck & Shroud and bumper shroud, and the whole machine runs from a heavy grounded mains cord.
