Ride-On Industrial Sweeper Product

Overview

A ride-on industrial sweeper collects dry debris from warehouse floors, parking structures, and yards faster than any manual method: this machine covers up to 12,000 m²/h against perhaps 300 m²/h for a person with a push broom. It works on the overthrow principle. The cylindrical Main Broom Unit spins against the direction of travel, flicking debris up and over itself into the Debris Hopper mounted ahead of it. Two angled Side Broom Unit discs extend the swept path to 1520 mm and pull debris away from walls and racking legs into the main broom's track.

Everything rides on a welded steel Chassis with the operator seated above the battery compartment. The machine described here is battery-electric; diesel and LPG variants of the same layout exist for outdoor yards where runtime matters more than emissions.

How it works

The Tube Broom Core is a 900 mm tube broom with chevron-patterned polypropylene bristles, driven at roughly 500 rpm by the Broom Drive Motor through a Drive Belt. The chevron pattern sweeps debris toward the broom centreline so it enters the hopper throat rather than spilling off the ends. As bristles wear, the Broom Height Adjuster restores the contact strip — the flattened band of bristle touching the floor — to its specified width of about 50 mm. Too narrow a strip leaves debris; too wide a strip wastes power and wears the broom in weeks instead of months.

Each side broom rides on a spring-loaded Side Broom Swing Arm so a collision with a pallet or column deflects the broom instead of bending it. The Side Broom Gearmotor turns the 500 mm disc at about 80 rpm, fast enough to flick gravel inboard without throwing it across the aisle.

Sweeping dry floors generates dust, and dust control is what separates an industrial sweeper from a yard brush on wheels. The Dust Control System system holds the broom chamber at negative pressure: the Vacuum Fan pulls about 15 m³/min through the chamber, past rubber Broom Chamber Skirt Set seals at the floor line, and through two pleated Panel Filter elements totalling 10 m² of media. The filters capture particles down to roughly 3 µm. When a Pressure Sensor detects rising differential pressure across the loaded filters, the operator triggers the Filter Shaker Motor, an eccentric-weight motor that vibrates the panels for about fifteen seconds and drops the caked dust into the hopper. On crossing wet patches the operator shuts the vacuum fan off, since damp dust blinds cellulose media permanently.

Hopper and hydraulics

The 310 L Hopper Shell sits low at the front while sweeping, then the Hydraulic System lift it for emptying. Two Hopper Lift Cylinder rams powered by the Hydraulic Power Pack raise the loaded hopper — up to 220 kg of debris — to a dump height of 1525 mm, clearing the rim of a standard waste skip. The Hydraulic Valve Block holds the load on a check valve if power fails mid-lift, and the Hopper Dump Door swings open hydraulically to discharge. A replaceable Hopper Wear Liner takes the impact erosion where thrown debris lands, and an optical Hopper Fill Sensor warns the operator before overfilling stalls the broom.

Drive and power

Traction comes from a single front Drive Wheel Hub that both drives and steers, swinging ±90° for a 2.6 m turning circle. The 1.5 kW Traction Motor gives 8 km/h forward and 4 km/h in reverse, and the spring-applied Electromagnetic Brake locks the machine whenever it is de-energised, so a dead battery cannot leave it free to roll.

The Battery Pack — six 6 V deep-cycle monoblocs on a roll-out Battery Tray — stores enough energy for about four hours of continuous sweeping. The Motor Controller modulates the traction, broom, and fan motors with MOSFET stages and enforces the interlock chain: no drive without an operator on the Seat Assembly presence switch, no broom rotation with the hopper raised. The Control Panel presents battery state, fault codes, and one-touch sweep mode, which lowers the brooms and starts the fan in a single action. An amber Warning Beacon and a reverse alarm cover the machine's blind quarter in mixed forklift traffic.

Maintenance

Daily checks are the broom contact strip, filter shake, and hopper emptying. The tube broom is a consumable, typically replaced after 600–800 hours when its diameter wears below the adjuster range. Panel filters survive several hundred shake cycles before blinding; hydraulic oil and the Hydraulic Hose Set follow annual inspection intervals. Lead-acid packs want watering monthly and equalisation charging weekly, which is the main argument for the lithium variants now displacing them.
