Overview

A salon styling station is a work counter integrated with lighting, storage, and power, designed for a single stylist or technician. The Work Counter Assembly is a high-pressure laminate or quartz top, typically 1.0–1.2 m wide and 0.45 m deep, set at standard ergonomic height (80–95 cm) with a Backsplash Panel preventing water and chemical splashes. The Mirror Unit Assembly mounts above the counter on a support frame, holding a [[salon-styling-station-mirror-glass|polished glass mirror]] flanked by [[salon-styling-station-led-ring-light|LED ring lights]] to eliminate shadows on the client's face. Below the counter, [[salon-styling-station-drawer-bank|drawer banks]] at each end provide compartmentalized storage for clips, combs, scissors, and styling products. A Tool Holder Rail Assembly at shoulder height on the mirror frame holds frequently-used tools — scissors, clippers, and a blow-dryer — within arm's reach. The entire station is supported on a Base Frame Assembly with [[salon-styling-station-leg-set|adjustable legs]] to level on uneven salon floors.

The design addresses the physical demands of salon work: poor lighting causes eye strain and missed details; inadequate counter space forces stylists to work around clutter; and a lack of organized tool storage wastes minutes per client session. A well-equipped station reduces fatigue and improves throughput.

Mirror and lighting

The Mirror Unit Assembly is the visual centerpiece. A 6 mm polished [[salon-styling-station-mirror-glass|float-glass mirror]] is mounted in a wood-veneer or aluminium Mirror Frame, angled back at 15–20 degrees for ergonomics. The LED Ring Lights, typically two 5 m RGB strips (120 LEDs/m, 24 V DC) arranged in semicircles on the left and right of the mirror, are fed by a LED Driver inside the back frame. The driver converts 120 V AC to 24 V DC and is controlled by a simple [[salon-styling-station-light-switch|dimmer switch]] mounted on the counter edge, allowing the stylist to adjust brightness from zero to full while working. LEDs are warm-white (2700–3000 K) to approximate natural light and reduce color distortion; RGB strips are optional for higher-end installations.

The Mirror Shelf, a narrow glass or wood shelf just above the mirror, holds frequently-accessed products: styling foam, hairspray, setting lotion. This keeps products visible and avoids the need to reach into drawers mid-style. Storage and tool access

Internal Drawer Dividers, either plastic or thin plywood, partition each drawer into compartments for scissors, clamps, clips, hair nets, and color-mixing bowls. The Tool Holder Rail Assembly is a slotted 20–30 mm aluminium T-rail mounted horizontally on the mirror back-frame at about shoulder height (1.5 m from the floor). Electrical and power

The Electrical Package provides two [[salon-styling-station-power-outlet|AC outlets]] on the counter front or side, typically rated for a 1500 W blow-dryer load (15 A at 120 V). The main [[salon-styling-station-power-cable|cord]] is routed through a grommet in the Counter Sub-Frame to a wall receptacle. Professional salons often daub a [[salon-styling-station-light-switch|dimmer switch]] inline with the AC circuit to reduce the audible buzz of a blow-dryer during consultations, or cycle power rapidly when multiple tools run simultaneously, reducing demand spikes.

LED mirror lighting draws negligible current (typically 15–20 W per ring at full brightness), so the dimmer is primarily protecting the main AC outlets from overload due to multiple blow-dryers in adjacent stations. Ergonomics and workflow

Maintenance and sanitation

The Counter Top and Backsplash Panel are impervious to water and most solvents — essential since hair color, bleach, and developer splash routinely. High-pressure laminate or quartz surfaces are wipe-clean with disinfectant; glass backsplashes are squeegeed and dried to prevent water spots. Drawer dividers and tool rail hooks are either plastic (easily sanitized in an autoclave if removable) or stainless steel; wood components are sealed with polyurethane to resist penetration by dyes and chemicals.

The LED Ring Lights are sealed in silicone tubing and the driver is protected in the back frame, so daily moisture exposure does not cause corrosion or electrical faults. Periodic replacement of the LED strips (typically 50,000–100,000 hour lifetime) is straightforward — the strips are glued with removable 3M VHB adhesive, allowing re-installation of a new strip without disassembly of the mirror frame.
