Motorized Standing Desk

Overview

The motorized standing desk is an electric sit-stand workstation. A laminate tabletop rests on two telescoping steel legs, each raised by a lead screw turned by its own DC gear motor. A control box drives both motors in lock-step from a handset that shows the current height and stores memory presets, while anti-collision sensing halts travel if the desk meets an obstruction. The frame lifts roughly 125 kg over a 620–1280 mm range.

The desk separates into a work surface, a lifting frame, and the electronics that run it. The Tabletop is the user surface; two Telescoping Leg columns provide the lift; and the Frame Support crossbar ties the legs together. Motion is commanded by the Control Box and Handset Controller, and the Cable Set links them, with a Cable Management Tray routing slack underneath.

Construction

Each Telescoping Leg is a three-stage steel column. A DC Gear Motor turns a lead screw inside the column, and a driven spindle nut climbs that screw to push the nested tubes apart; plastic glides keep the stages concentric and quiet, and a steel foot with threaded levelers holds the column to the floor. Because each leg has its own motor and hall encoder, the control box must keep both columns synchronized so the top stays level through travel.

The Control Box carries the motion MCU, a dual H-bridge stage that powers the two motors, and an AC-DC supply, all inside a steel enclosure. It reads the per-leg encoders to track height and watches the anti-collision sensor for sudden current or motion changes that signal an obstruction, reversing briefly if one is detected. The Handset Controller sends up, down, and preset commands over the cable link and displays the height on its LCD. The Tabletop bolts to the Frame Support through the top rails and bracket set, with grommets passing cabling down into the tray.
