Garden Tiller Product
Overview
A garden tiller breaks up and turns over soil to prepare a seedbed, mixing in compost and loosening compacted ground. It does this with curved steel blades — tines — that rotate on a shaft and chop into the earth as the machine moves. This model is a walk-behind petrol unit: the engine drives the tines through a gearbox that trades speed for the high torque digging demands, while a drag stake controls how fast and how deep it works.
The Petrol Engine is a 212 cc air-cooled overhead-valve petrol unit. A Recoil Starter cranks it, a float-bowl Carburetor meters the fuel-air mixture, and the Spark Plug fires the charge. The crankshaft drives a belt down to the tine gearbox.
How it works
The Tine Assembly does the digging. A Drive Belt (not shown at this level) feeds the Gearbox Housing, where a worm Helical Gear Pair gears engine speed far down and turns the drive through a right angle onto the Tine Shaft. Bolted to that shaft are the Digging Tines — bolo blades that chop into the soil and fling it backward, breaking clods and turning the bed. The high reduction means the tines turn slowly but with enough torque to claw through hard, root-bound ground.
Forward progress and depth are governed by the Drag Stake, a trailing Drag Bar that digs in and holds the machine back so the tines bite rather than skip across the surface; a Depth Pin sets its height.
Construction
The engine and gearbox mount on the Chassis & Shrouds, whose Tine Shield shrouds the rotating tines to contain thrown soil and stones. Two Wheel Assembly wheels carry the machine for transport between beds. The operator steers from the Handle & Controls, where a Throttle Control sets engine speed and a Tine Clutch Lever engages the tine drive. The tine shaft runs on sealed Ball Bearing supports with Oil Seal seals retaining the gearbox oil, and the machine is bolted together with a common Fastener Set.
