Overview

A pole saw is a small chainsaw on the end of a long pole, used to prune branches that are too high to reach safely from the ground. This model is cordless: a brushless motor at the head drives a short bar-and-chain, fed by a lithium-ion battery, on an aluminium pole that telescopes to put the cut several metres up. The operator stands clear below and works the cut through a trigger at the lower handle.

The Motor Powerhead houses a brushless DC motor — a Stator Assembly, a Rotor Assembly and Copper Winding in a sealed Motor Housing. A Helical Gear Pair reduces motor speed to the high torque the chain needs, and a Motor Controller commutates the motor in response to the trigger.

How it works

Cutting is done by the Cutting Head. A toothed Drive Sprocket on the motor output pulls the Saw Chain around the Guide Bar; the chain's cutter links shave wood fibre as they pass through the kerf. Because chain and bar generate heat by friction, a Automatic Oiler meters bar oil onto the chain from a reservoir as the saw runs, keeping it cool and free. Chain tension is set at the Bar Mount & Tensioner so the chain stays seated in the bar groove without binding.

Power comes from the Battery Pack, a removable pack of Li-ion Cell, 18650 cells watched over by a BMS Board that balances the cells and cuts off on over-current or under-voltage.

Construction

The Telescoping Pole is a two-section aluminium tube; a cam Lock Collar clamps the inner tube at the chosen length, and a splined coupling carries motor torque up to the head. The operator runs the saw through the Controls — a variable-speed Trigger Switch gated by a Safety Lockout so it cannot fire accidentally. A Chain Guard covers the bar nose, and the housings close with a common Fastener Set.
