Overview

An e-bike is a pedal-assist bicycle that augments rider effort with an electric motor drawing from an onboard battery. This configuration uses a mid-drive layout, placing the motor at the bottom bracket so its output passes through the bicycle's own gears. The assist is regulated by class: Class 1 cuts off at 25 km/h, while Class 3 extends support to 45 km/h. Because the motor supplements rather than replaces pedaling, the machine is legally a bicycle in most jurisdictions and requires no license.

How it works

The Mid-Drive Motor Unit houses a brushless motor and a Planetary Reduction Gearset reduction stage that trades the motor's high rotational speed for usable torque at the crank. A Pedal Torque Sensor reads how hard the rider pushes the pedals and reports that strain to the Motor Controller, which meters current to the motor in proportion to rider effort. Driving through the crank means the motor benefits from the bicycle's gear ratios, keeping it in an efficient band on climbs.

Energy comes from the Down-Tube Battery Pack, a down-tube pack of lithium cells managed by an integrated BMS that balances cells and limits charge and discharge. The pack seats into the Aluminum Frame on a locking rail, so it can be removed for charging or security. Power and signal wiring runs through the Wiring Harness to the cockpit display and lights.

The rider interacts through the Handlebar Cockpit, which carries the assist-level display and, on throttle-equipped models, a thumb throttle. Power reaches the road through a conventional chain drivetrain. Each Hydraulic Disc Brake integrates a motor-cutoff microswitch in the lever, so squeezing either brake instantly disables assist. The combination of pedal-proportional control, gear multiplication, and a removable high-capacity pack defines the modern mid-drive e-bike.
