Oscillating Multi-Tool Product
Overview
An oscillating multi-tool cuts, scrapes and sands by rocking an accessory back and forth through a small angle at high frequency rather than spinning it. The short, fast stroke means the blade barely moves at the surface, so the tool can make flush and plunge cuts right up against an adjacent surface, reach into corners, and remove material without the kickback or grab of a rotating blade. A single body accepts segment and plunge blades, scrapers, grout-removal blades and a triangular sanding pad, which is what earns it the "multi-tool" name.
The tool runs on an Battery Pack slide pack and is built around the Drive Motor. Squeezing past the On/Off & Speed Dial feeds a speed signal to the Speed Control Board board, whose inverter drives the brushless motor with a soft-start that eases the blade into the work. Accessories clip onto the Tool-less Blade Clamp, a lever-released holder that grips a star-shaped fitting so blades can be changed and re-indexed without a wrench.
How it works
The heart of the tool is the Oscillation Drive. The motor spins an Eccentric Pin — a pin set off-axis on the gear — and that pin traces a small circle. Straddling the pin is the Drive Fork, a two-pronged yoke clamped to the Oscillating Spindle. As the eccentric orbits, it pushes the fork from side to side, and the fork converts that orbit into a few degrees of angular oscillation of the spindle, repeated thousands of times a minute. The very short stroke at the blade tip is why the tool feels controllable yet still cuts aggressively.
Whatever sits on the Accessory Holder swings with the spindle. An Plunge-Cut Blade saws through wood or screws on the in-stroke and the out-stroke; an Scraper Blade chisels off adhesive or paint; an Sanding Pad from the Accessory Set set sands into corners a disc sander cannot reach. The whole gear and fork mechanism runs in grease inside the Housing & Grip, whose overmould grip damps the characteristic buzz of oscillation so the tool stays comfortable through long jobs.
