Dental Milling Machine Product

Overview

A dental milling machine is the small CNC mill that subtractively carves a restoration — a crown, bridge, coping, inlay or denture base — out of a solid block or disc of dental material. It is the manufacturing half of the digital workflow: a scan from an Intraoral Scanner becomes a CAD design, the design becomes a toolpath, and this machine cuts it to within microns so the restoration seats on the prepared tooth without a remake.

The blank clamps in the Block & Disc Holder inside the sealed Enclosure & Door, whose interlocked door contains the coolant spray and dust. The Milling Spindle spins a diamond or carbide bur at tens of thousands of rpm while the Servo Motion Axes move the blank against it in three linear directions plus rotation, so the tool can reach the undercuts of an anatomic crown. The Coolant & Dust System system keeps the cut clean, the Tool Magazine swaps burs as the job steps from roughing to fine detail, and the CNC Control System runs the whole sequence from the design file.

The defining trade-off is rigidity versus access: a stiff machine cuts accurately, but the restoration's shape demands the tool reach awkward angles, which is what the rotary axis buys.

How it works

A job arrives as a toolpath generated by CAM software. The CNC Control Board splits the work: an Compute SoC Module plans and buffers the path while an Microcontroller generates the real-time step pulses and closes the servo loops. Each of the Servo Motion Axes is a Axis Servo Motor motor turning a Ball Screw along a Linear Guide, and the Position Encoder on every motor reports position so the controller holds about a micron. The Rotary Axis tilts and turns the blank so a short, stiff tool can reach surfaces a purely linear machine could not.

Cutting happens at the Milling Spindle, a brushless motor running on Ball Bearing supports that grips the bur in a low-runout Tool Collet; runout matters because a wobbling tool leaves a poor margin where the crown meets the tooth. The Coolant & Dust System path adapts to the material: glass ceramics mill wet, with the Coolant Pump flooding the cut from the Coolant Tank, while zirconia mills dry and the Blower Motor pulls abrasive dust through the Dust Filter.

Restorations need more than one tool, so the Tool Magazine holds a Milling Bur set; the spindle returns to the Tool Rack to change burs and touches each off the Tool Sensor to measure length and catch breakage before the next pass. The operator loads jobs and jogs the machine from the Operator Touchscreen, and the Blank Changer can feed fresh blanks so a tray of cases runs unattended.
