Veterinary Hydrotherapy Treadmill Product
Overview
A veterinary hydrotherapy treadmill puts a dog on a moving belt inside a glass-walled tank of warm water. The physics is the treatment: water at mid-thigh depth carries a large fraction of body weight through buoyancy, so a patient three weeks out of cruciate-ligament surgery can walk with near-normal gait at a fraction of the joint load, while the water's viscosity makes every stride cost more muscular effort than the same stride on land. Raising or lowering the water level tunes the unloading — immersion to the hip unloads roughly 60% of body weight, to the stifle about 15% — which gives the therapist a progression dial no land treadmill has. Standard caseload is post-surgical orthopedic rehabilitation, arthritis management, neurological re-education, and weight-loss conditioning.
Tank and observation
The walking chamber sits above floor level with 12 mm tempered Tempered Glass Side Panel panels on both flanks, because the therapist's main instrument is their eyes: limb placement, stride length, and weight-shift asymmetries are read through the glass at water level. Graduated Depth Reference Rails let depth be set against anatomical landmarks (hock, stifle, hip) rather than centimeters, and the Water Level Sensor lets the console refill to a stored per-patient depth automatically. An Overflow Skimmer skimmer absorbs the displacement surge when a 40 kg dog steps in and continuously pulls hair and surface film toward filtration.
Belt and drive
The Walking Belt is a textured wet-grip PVC band running over a phenolic Belt Support Deck and crowned stainless Belt Roller pair — everything below the waterline is stainless, polymer, or sealed. The Sealed Drive Motor sits outside the wet envelope in an IP-rated Motor Housing, driving the head roller through a Helical Gear Pair reduction and Oil Seal shaft seals. Gait work happens at speeds land treadmills barely register — a post-surgical session may run at 0.5–1.5 km/h — so the Variable-Frequency Drive provides 0.1 km/h resolution with soft-start ramps, and an Encoder on the roller reports true belt speed, since water drag would otherwise let the motor's nominal speed overstate what the patient actually walks. Top speed near 12 km/h covers trot conditioning for working and sporting dogs.
Water plant
Water is stored between sessions in an under-floor Water Reservoir of 600–900 L, already heated and treated, so the Circulation Pump floods the tank in one to three minutes — a session-throughput requirement, since draining and reheating from mains for every patient would idle the machine for hours. In circulation mode the same pump pulls water through the Hair Trap Strainer (dog hair is the dominant maintenance load), a 20–50 µm Cartridge Filter, the 3–6 kW Inline Water Heater, and the Water Sanitizer before returning to the tank. Therapy temperature is held at 28–32 °C: warm enough to relax muscle and raise tissue extensibility, cool enough that a coated, exercising dog does not overheat. Optional Resistance Jet counter-current jets add adjustable drag for late-stage conditioning. A Pressure Sensor across the filter flags a loading cartridge before flow suffers.
Patient access
Post-surgical patients cannot jump a tank wall, so both ends close with Ramp Door Panel doors that fold down into walk-in ramps surfaced with non-slip Ramp Tread Surface tread. Closed, each door holds back several hundred kilograms of water against its Door Seal, compressed evenly by over-center Door Cam Latch pairs. A Door Interlock Switch interlock on each door blocks both filling and belt motion until the latches are home — the simplest defense against the two obvious failure modes, flooding the clinic and starting the belt mid-entry.
Control and safety
From the Console Control Board touchscreen the therapist sequences a session: fill to stored depth, confirm temperature, ramp the belt, run timed work/rest intervals on the Session Timer, drain back to reservoir. Patient programs persist between visits so progression (deeper unloading to shallower, slower to faster, longer intervals) is recorded rather than remembered. Safety hardware reflects the water-plus-mains environment: dual Emergency Stop buttons stop belt and pumps within a revolution, every powered circuit runs behind GFCI Protection residual-current protection, an overhead Harness Support Bar takes a sling for patients too weak to bear even buoyancy-reduced weight, and Therapist Grab Rail runs give the therapist a brace point while supporting an animal in the water. The flooded machine approaches 1,100 kg, so installation includes a floor-loading check and the Leveling Foot are set so depth reads true along the whole belt.
