Veterinary Surgical Table Product
Overview
A veterinary surgical table positions an anesthetized animal for sterile surgery and holds the surgical site at a comfortable working height for the surgeon. Its design problem differs from a human operating table in scale and hygiene rather than principle: patients range from a 2 kg cat to a 90 kg mastiff on the same table in the same day, none of them lie flat voluntarily, all of them lose body heat rapidly under anesthesia, and procedures generate lavage fluid and hair that the table must shed completely between cases. The answer is a seam-free stainless Stainless Tabletop with built-in heating and drainage, carried on an electric Electric Lift Column column over a castored Floor Base.
Tabletop
The Tabletop Panel is pressed from AISI 304 stainless sheet in one piece, with raised edges and a deliberate fall toward the Drain Channel & Outlet, whose spigot hoses to a pail under the table — orthopedic lavage and abdominal procedures can produce liters of fluid. Seamlessness is the hygiene feature: there are no joints or fasteners on the patient surface where blood or scrub solution can lodge. Patients are positioned with limb ties to the eight recessed Tie-Down Cleat, and a removable V-Trough Insert cradles round-chested dogs in dorsal recumbency for abdominal access. The Accessory Side Rail carry the standard accessory profile, so instrument trays, anesthesia screens, and arm boards interchange with human-medical fittings.
Heating
Anesthetic hypothermia is the dominant perioperative risk this table addresses directly. Anesthesia abolishes shivering and vasoconstriction, and small patients have a large surface-to-mass ratio; a cat on bare stainless loses heat fast enough to delay recovery and impair clotting. The Tabletop Heating System system bonds two etched-foil Heating Element mats under the top, over an Insulation Pad that pushes the heat upward. A Surface Temperature Sensor per zone closes the loop through the Heating Controller, holding the surface at a setpoint between 30 and 40 °C within ±1 °C. Safety is layered because the patient cannot complain: the controller alarms on sensor fault, and independent Thermal Fuses cut power on overtemperature regardless of the electronics. Surface temperatures above about 42 °C cause burns in anesthetized animals, which is why contact warming is regulated this tightly rather than left to a simple thermostat.
Lift and tilt
The Electric Lift Column is a two-stage telescoping column driven by a Lift Gearmotor through a self-locking Ball Screw; the screw's lead angle holds position without brakes or power. Travel from about 75 to 125 cm covers prep work at low height and spinal or ophthalmic surgery at high. The Column Guide Set keeps the sections from racking under the offset load of a patient lying at the table end, and a Column Bellows Cover keeps fluid and clipped hair off the spindle.
Above the column, the Tilt Trunnion Frame frame carries two motorized tilt axes: ±30° Trendelenburg along the table and ±20° lateral. Head-down tilt shifts abdominal viscera cranially for caudal abdominal and laparoscopic access; lateral tilt presents the surgical field without re-draping. Each axis is driven by a Servo Motor through the self-locking Tilt Locking Drive worm stage and reports angle through an Encoder, so the Table Control Board can return to stored positions and enforce interlocks — full lateral tilt is inhibited at maximum Trendelenburg, where the combined overhang approaches the tipping limit of the Base Casting.
Base, controls, power
The base solves a contradiction: the table must roll for room turnover but be immovable during surgery. The Retractable Castor Set retracts with one lever throw, lowering the base onto four Leveling Foot that take the load directly on the floor; a stainless Base Cover Shroud closes the casting against hose-down cleaning.
During surgery the scrubbed surgeon adjusts height with the sealed Foot Control Pedal, keeping gloved hands sterile; the circulating nurse uses the Hand Control Handset for tilt and the memorized prep, surgery, and transfer heights. Motor drive comes from a medical Power Supply with an 12 V Battery sized for roughly twenty lift cycles, so a mains failure mid-procedure never strands a patient at full height or in steep tilt — the table can always be leveled and lowered for transfer. The fused Mains Inlet Filter inlet and the leakage-current limits of IEC 60601-1 apply because electrosurgery and monitoring equipment share the patient with the table's heated, conductive top.
