Treadmill

Overview

A treadmill is a motorized running platform that moves a belt under the user at a controlled speed, letting them walk, jog, or run in place. Unlike the flywheel machines in this category, the motor here does the work of moving the surface; the user matches the belt's pace. A motorized incline raises the front to simulate hills, and the deck folds upright on a gas strut to save floor space.

The machine is built on a welded Steel Frame with uprights, handlebars, and a folding hinge. The Running Deck carries the belt over rollers on a cushioned board; the Drive Motor turns it under the command of the Motor Controller Board. The Incline System tilts the deck, the Console runs the interface, and a Safety System cuts power in an emergency.

How it works

The Drive Motor is a continuous-duty DC motor with a flywheel that spins the front roller through a poly-V belt; the front roller drives the running belt, and the rear roller and tensioner bolts keep it tracked and taut. The Motor Controller Board rectifies mains power and PWM-drives the motor through an IGBT bridge and MOSFETs, holding the set speed under the runner's changing load.

The Running Deck cushions each footstrike: the MDF deck board floats on coil springs and elastomer dampers to reduce joint impact. The Incline System raises the deck front with a motorized lift screw. The Console adds a touchscreen, speakers, heart-rate inputs, and accessory ports, while the Safety System uses a tethered magnetic key, pull it and a stop switch cuts the motor, halting the belt at once.
