E-Reader
ProductOverview
An e-reader is a single-purpose tablet for reading digital books on an electronic-paper display that mimics ink on a page. Unlike an LCD it emits no light of its own in normal use, draws power only when the page changes, and stays readable in bright sunlight. An edge frontlight makes it usable in the dark, and an embedded radio and speaker add store access and audiobook playback.
The device packs into a molded Chassis of glass-filled plastic and aluminium. Its defining component is the laminated E Ink Display Module; the Mainboard runs the software and radios, the Battery Pack supplies power, the Page-Turn Button Set handles page turns, and the Speaker plays audiobooks. An Ambient Light Sensor dims the frontlight automatically.
How it works
The e-paper film holds millions of microcapsules suspended in clear fluid, each containing charged black and white pigment particles. The EPD Driver IC applies a voltage waveform across the TFT Backplane for each pixel; the field pulls black or white particles to the surface, where they remain without further power until the next page. Because the image is bistable, a static page consumes no display energy.
The Front Light Guide sits above the panel: edge-mounted warm and cool LEDs inject light into a guide plate that spreads it evenly across the page, letting the reader tune color temperature for night reading. Touch input is read by a capacitive digitizer laminated under the cover glass. The SoC renders text into a grayscale framebuffer, the WiFi/BT Combo Module syncs library content and streams audiobooks, and the Power Management IC manages the Li-polymer cell and the multiple supply rails.
