Window Air Conditioner Product

Overview

A window air conditioner is the whole refrigeration loop packed into one chassis that straddles a window sill — indoor half facing the room, outdoor half hanging outside, a sealed divider between them. It is the cheapest way to cool a single room because nothing has to be installed by a technician: the unit slides into the opening, the Slide-Out Side Curtain side curtains expand to fill the gap, and it plugs into a wall socket.

Everything bolts to a galvanized base pan inside the Chassis & Cabinet. Warm room air is pulled through the Washable Air Filter, chilled, and pushed back out the Front Discharge Grille. On the far side of the Air Barrier Panel, the outdoor section rejects that heat to the open air. The whole machine answers to one Control Module board that reads room temperature and cycles the compressor on and off to hold the setpoint.

How it works

Cooling is a standard vapor-compression cycle. The Rotary Compressor — a hermetic rotary unit with the motor and pump sharing one shell — squeezes refrigerant vapor to high pressure and temperature. That hot gas runs through the Condenser Coil outdoors, where it gives up heat and condenses to a warm liquid. The liquid then passes through the Capillary Tube, a narrow fixed-bore restrictor that drops its pressure sharply.

On the low-pressure side the refrigerant boils inside the Evaporator Coil, pulling heat out of the room air blowing across its fins. The cold, dewatered air goes back to the room; the moisture that condenses on the coil drips into the base pan. The neat trick of a window unit is the Dual-Shaft Blower: a single dual-shaft motor spins a centrifugal wheel indoors and a propeller fan outdoors at once. A slinger ring on the outdoor fan flings the collected condensate onto the hot condenser, evaporating it for a small efficiency gain and saving a drain line. The R32 Refrigerant Charge is sealed at the factory and never needs topping up over the unit's life.
