Electric Guitar

Product

Overview

The electric guitar is a fretted string instrument whose tone is produced electromagnetically rather than acoustically. Six steel strings stretch over a solid timber body; their vibration is sensed by magnetic pickups, shaped by the onboard controls, and sent to an external amplifier. The solid body resists feedback and gives the long sustain characteristic of the type. This instrument follows the classic bolt-on configuration with three single-coil pickups and a synchronized tremolo, a layout prized for its bright, articulate voice and wide tonal range.

How it works

The strings are anchored at the Bridge Assembly, a six-saddle tremolo unit whose spring-loaded block lets the player bend pitch in real time, and run up to the Neck Assembly, where they cross the fretted board. Pressing a string against a fret shortens its speaking length and raises its pitch; the frets are spaced so each represents a semitone. At the headstock the strings wind onto the geared tuning machines that set their tension and pitch.

Tone generation happens at the three Single-Coil Pickup units mounted under the strings. Each pickup is a coil of fine copper wire wound around six magnetic pole pieces; the vibrating steel string modulates the magnetic field, inducing a small alternating voltage in the coil. That signal is routed through the Electronics Harness harness, where the five-way selector chooses pickups, the volume and tone potentiometers shape level and treble roll-off, and the output jack feeds the amplifier.

The whole assembly is built on the Body Assembly, a routed slab of alder finished in lacquer that carries the bridge, pickups, and control cavity. A fresh String Set of nickel-wound strings completes the instrument. Setup, adjusting neck relief via the truss rod, saddle height, and intonation, determines how easily it plays and how accurately it holds pitch up the neck.
