Guitar Amplifier Product

Overview

A combo guitar amplifier packs the speaker, the amplification, and the controls into one tolex-covered cabinet that a player can carry to a gig. Signal from the guitar enters the Control Panel, passes through the Preamp Board for gain and tone shaping, picks up reverb and modulation on the Effects Board, and is amplified by the Power Amp Board to drive the Speaker Assembly.

This unit is a solid-state modeling amp rather than a tube design. A modeling DSP voices the preamp to emulate the response of several classic amplifier and cabinet types, and a second DSP supplies the effects. The whole signal path runs from a regulated supply built around the Power Supply, and a two-button Footswitch lets the player flip channels and effects without reaching for the panel.

How it works

Mains power enters the Power Supply, where a laminated-core transformer feeds a rectifier and bulk filter capacitors to produce the high-current rails the power amp draws on transient peaks, plus a regulated low-voltage rail for the digital and control circuits.

A 1/4-inch input jack on the Control Panel sends the instrument signal to the Preamp Board. Its gain stage sets clean or overdriven character, a passive bass/mid/treble tone stack shapes the spectrum, and the modeling DSP applies the selected amp and cabinet voicing before a DAC returns the result to the analog path. The signal then crosses to the Effects Board, where a dedicated DSP adds reverb, chorus, delay, and tremolo mixed in at the level set on the panel.

The processed line-level signal feeds the Power Amp Board. Its complementary output transistors run in Class-AB on a shared heatsink, with a bias stage that tracks heatsink temperature to hold idle current steady, and the amplified output drives the 12-inch Speaker Assembly through its neodymium-magnet motor. The rear I/O Panel taps the same signal for a series FX loop, a balanced cabinet-simulated line output for recording, and a USB port for audio interfacing and preset editing. All of it sits inside the Cabinet Assembly, a plywood box covered in tolex with metal corners, a grille cloth over the baffle, and a strap handle for transport.
