Wind Turbine Pitch Control System

Assembly

The control system translates turbine-level demands into blade movements within an electric wind turbine pitch system. The pitch controller coordinates the requested angles, while each axis drive operates a blade actuator. Collective pitch moves blades together; individual pitch permits different commands to individual blades. Emerson documents both approaches and separates blade pitch from yaw, which turns the whole nacelle. Electric pitch control.

Normal positioning and protective stopping are related but different functions. Emerson's system description includes monitoring of controller communication, servo motors and energy storage, together with autonomous feathering when the safety system activates. A working command path alone therefore does not demonstrate that the backup stopping function is healthy. The safety relay in this BOM represents one element of that protective path, not proof of a particular safety architecture or certification.

The blade load sensor and hub wiring show the feedback and connection boundaries around the controller. Whether load measurements actually feed individual-pitch control depends on the implemented sensors and software. Hub electronics also face a demanding installation environment: Moog's offshore pitch documentation addresses temperature, humidity, vibration and shock as design considerations for drives and cabinets. Offshore equipment context.

This is a functional control-system model. It does not specify communication protocols, redundant channels, stop thresholds, stored-energy capacity or software behavior. Those must come from the exact turbine's control and safety documentation, rather than being inferred from the number of electronic components listed.
