Wind Turbine Pitch Drive

Assembly

The pitch drive is the mechanical actuator within an electric wind turbine pitch system. It rotates a blade about its own axis, changing the blade's angle to the airflow. This is different from yawing the nacelle. In the arrangement modeled here, the pitch motor feeds a reduction gearbox, and the output pinion engages the toothed blade-bearing ring. Bonfiglioli's wind-drive catalogue describes planetary reducers with either a splined output or an integral pinion, illustrating why the motor, reducer and bearing interface must be selected together. Manufacturer reference.

Pitch duty is not simply continuous rotation at a fixed load. The actuator makes repeated positioning movements and must also accommodate larger blade-angle changes. Liebherr explains that frequent small adjustments increase the demands on pitch gearboxes and that reduced backlash can improve positioning accuracy. Pitch gearbox design.

The holding brake and angle encoder shown in this BOM represent holding and feedback functions around that transmission. Their presence alone does not establish a complete emergency-feathering system: backup energy, controls and the validated stopping sequence belong to the wider pitch-system design.

This is a functional electric-drive breakdown, not a replacement-parts list for a named turbine. Motor technology, gear ratio, brake arrangement, encoder redundancy, lubrication and number of actuators per blade depend on the turbine. Hydraulic blade actuation is a different architecture and should not be inferred from these electric-drive children.
