Wind Turbine Blade Root Joint
AssemblyThe root joint connects a wind turbine blade to its bearing or hub interface. This is a transition between a composite blade structure and a concentrated ring of mechanical connections. Gurit describes the root as a cyclically loaded region and distinguishes bonded inserts, co-infused inserts and T-bolt connections. These are different load-transfer architectures, not simply alternative names for the same fastener. Root reinforcement approaches.
This BOM models an insert-based arrangement. The root inserts anchor the studs, while the root-end laminate forms the surrounding composite structure. The interface ring and nuts and washers complete the modeled connection boundary. Listing the laminate alongside the fasteners is important: this joint is not characterized adequately by bolt strength alone.
A Siemens Gamesa patent published by the European Patent Office describes root assemblies as a blade-root portion attached to a bearing or hub flange, and identifies both T-bolts and root inserts as established connection methods. It is useful evidence for the distinction between these layouts, but its proposed design is not evidence that any unnamed production blade uses it. Root-assembly technical disclosure.
The generic child list does not determine insert geometry, adhesive process, stud size, preload or inspection acceptance. It also does not establish that a separate steel interface ring is universal. Those details require the actual blade and bearing drawings. Hardware substitutions and tightening values cannot be derived from these schematic quantities.
