Wind Turbine Blade Lightning Protection
AssemblyThe tip system groups the outboard closure of a wind turbine blade with part of its lightning-protection path. The tip cap finishes the modeled blade geometry, while the lightning receptor is a conductive strike-attachment feature. They have different functions: an aerodynamic close-out is not, by itself, an electrical protection system.
DEHN describes a common arrangement in which a receptor near the blade tip connects to a conductor running toward the blade root. The lightning-current path then continues through the turbine toward its earth-termination system. This explains why the down-conductor cable cannot be treated as an isolated accessory: protection depends on the complete path and its interfaces, not merely the presence of a metal receptor. Wind-turbine lightning protection.
The conductor anchor bracket represents support for the internal conductor in this BOM. Its geometry, spacing and attachment details are not provided. Likewise, the receptor count does not establish coverage for a particular blade or imply that all strikes attach at the tip.
Receptors are also service items. DEHN explains that repeated upward-lightning events can gradually erode receptor material, with damage accumulating over time. Monitoring and inspection therefore address a different question from whether a conductor was installed originally. Receptor erosion and upward flashes.
This is a generic functional grouping, not a lightning qualification or repair specification. Receptor placement, conductor material, bonding details and acceptance tests must come from the blade manufacturer's validated design. The listed parts cannot demonstrate compliance or guarantee freedom from lightning damage.
