Wind Turbine Blade Structural Spar
AssemblyThe structural spar is the internal load-carrying framework of a wind turbine blade. Its spar caps run along opposite sides of the blade, while shear webs connect them across the hollow section. Together they provide a beam-like load path rather than relying on the aerodynamic shell alone. The NREL reference-turbine report describes blade structures with opposing spar caps and internal webs, but also shows that web number and placement change between reference designs. Reference blade structures.
The unidirectional laminate represents reinforcement aligned mainly along the blade span. That orientation is useful for longitudinal stiffness and strength. Glass and carbon reinforcement are alternative design choices, not interchangeable material labels. Gurit's pultrusion brochure describes both glass and carbon profiles and explains the importance of fiber alignment and prepared bonding surfaces. Reinforcement profiles.
The web core and bond flanges complete the modeled assembly. A web is a structural panel, while its flange is the interface transferring load into the adjacent laminate. Listing both helps distinguish panel manufacture from the bonded joints that integrate the spar into the blade.
This BOM describes one generic arrangement, not a certified laminate schedule. Cap thickness, fiber type, resin, web geometry, core material and adhesive details require the actual blade design. The listed quantities should not be used to estimate reinforcement mass or to assume that all blades use two identical webs.
