Heavy-Duty Slurry Pump

Product

Overview

A heavy-duty slurry pump moves liquids that are full of abrasive solids, mill discharge, tailings, dredge spoil, process slurries, that would destroy an ordinary water pump in days. It is a centrifugal pump built around a single idea: the parts that touch the slurry will wear out, so make them thick, make them from hard materials, and make them quick to replace. Everything in the design serves that wear economy, from the replaceable liners to the sacrificial shaft sleeve.

The pumping is done by the Impeller, Shaft & Bearings spinning inside the Volute Casing & Liners. The impeller throws slurry outward into the volute, converting speed into pressure; the volute then guides it to the discharge. Because slurry erodes whatever it flows past, the casing's inner surfaces are not the casing itself but bolted-in wear parts, so when they erode, the expensive pressure shell is reused and only the liners are scrapped.

How it works

Slurry enters through the suction flange at the impeller eye, where the Slurry Impeller, thick-vaned, in high-chrome iron or moulded rubber, accelerates it outward. It collects in the Volute Liner, a replaceable passage inside the Volute Casing & Liners, and leaves through the discharge branch. The fastest-wearing surfaces, the Throatbush at the suction side and the back liner behind the impeller, are set to a fine clearance and swapped on a schedule as they erode.

Keeping slurry out of the bearings is the job of the Shaft Sleeve & Expeller Seal. A sacrificial Shaft Sleeve protects the shaft through the seal zone, while the Expeller, a small back-vaned disc, spins slurry away from the seal while running, so a simple gland or mechanical seal can close it with little or no flush water. The shaft runs in the Bearing Assembly & Lubrication, a rigid cartridge holding the bearings and providing the adjustment that sets impeller-to-liner clearance.

The pump is driven by the Drive, a standard induction motor through a V-belt set, so speed can be tuned to duty by changing pulleys rather than the motor. Motor and wet end sit on the Base Frame, whose slide rails let the belts be tensioned, and the unit connects to the slurry piping through the lined Suction & Discharge Flanges.
