Electric Model Train Set Product
Overview
An electric model train set runs a scale railway from power fed through the rails themselves. The Locomotive is the only powered vehicle; it draws current off the track, drives its wheels through gears, and tows a string of Rolling Stock Car cars. The trains run on a loop built from sectional Track Set pieces joined by rail joiners, with Turnout switches to route between roads. An Power Pack supplies and controls the track voltage, magnetic couplers let cars join and part, and Trackside Building scenery dresses the layout.
How it works
Power reaches the locomotive without any wires to the train. The two rails are the two conductors: the Power Pack puts a controlled voltage across them, and each Wheelset has metal wheels with an Current Pickup wiper that carries that current up into the locomotive. Inside, the Traction Motor turns a Helical Gear Pair reduction down to the driven axles; a brass Flywheel smooths the torque so the engine crawls steadily instead of lurching. In a digital (DCC) set the DCC Decoder reads command packets superimposed on the track voltage, so several locomotives on the same rails can be driven independently — speed, direction, and lights all set by address.
The track is modular. Straight and curved sections snap together and the Rail Joiner fishplates both hold the rails aligned and pass current along them. A Turnout is a powered switch: a twin-coil solenoid throws the Point Blade to send the train onto the straight or the diverging road. Cars couple with Magnetic Coupler knuckles closed by a Neodymium Magnet, so they join when pushed together and can be uncoupled over a magnet set in the track. The unpowered cars ride on pivoting Bogie trucks that let long vehicles follow tight curves.
