Sandwich Maker Product

Overview

A sandwich maker is a hinged clamshell press that toasts a filled sandwich between two heated, ridged plates. The two halves are built around the Upper Housing and the Lower Housing, joined at the back by the sprung Hinge & Latch. Pressing down on the lid handle closes the Upper Cooking Plate onto the Lower Cooking Plate, clamping the bread so both faces toast at once while the ridges sear the panini-style grill marks. All of the mains wiring and the regulating electronics sit in the dry bay inside the lower shell, kept clear of the hot cooking surfaces above.

How it works

Each plate is a cast-aluminium slab with a tubular Upper Cooking Plate heating element cast directly into it; the matching element in the lower plate brings both cooking faces up to roughly 200 °C. Plate temperature is governed by the Lower Cooking Plate's bimetal thermostat: as the metal heats it snaps open to cut the elements, then closes again as it cools, cycling the plates around the setpoint. A one-shot thermal fuse in each plate sits in series with its element and opens permanently if a thermostat sticks closed and the plate runs away, which is the appliance's last line of safety.

User feedback comes from the Control Module board. Its power LED lights whenever the unit is energised, and the ready LED, wired across the thermostat, comes on once the plates first reach temperature so the cook knows when to load the sandwich. Mains power enters through the Power Cord, whose strain-relief grommet protects the cable where it passes through the shell, and the cord stows on a cleat moulded under the base. Inside, the Wiring Harness ties the cord, thermostat, thermal fuses, elements, and indicator board together. The closed shell rests on four rubber feet, and the lid's return spring holds it open for loading and lifts it clear when the latch is released.
