Hand Mixer
ProductOverview
A hand mixer is a handheld beater that drives two detachable whisks from a small universal motor. It mixes batters, whips cream, and kneads light dough without the bulk of a stand mixer. The whole unit weighs about 1 kg, runs from a standard wall outlet at 120 V or 230 V, and draws 250 to 350 W under load. The user holds the body in one hand, lowers the beaters into the bowl, and selects a speed on a side switch.
The Hand Mixer splits into eight subsystems: the Universal Motor Assembly that produces torque, the Beater Gear Drive that reduces and divides it to two spindles, the Speed Control Board that sets motor speed, the Housing that carries everything, the Beater Ejector Mechanism that releases the beaters, the Attachment Set of whisks and hooks, the Power Cord Assembly that feeds mains power, and the Indicator LED that shows the unit is live.
Motor Assembly
The drive is a universal motor, a series-wound machine that runs on AC and reaches high no-load speed in a compact frame. Mains current passes through the field windings of the Stator Assembly and then through the Rotor Assembly armature, so field and armature currents stay in phase and torque holds up under load. Current reaches the spinning armature through the Commutator, a segmented copper ring wiped by two Carbon Brush contacts. Each brush sits in a Brush Holder with a small spring that keeps constant pressure as the graphite wears down. Brushes are the usual wear item and are sized to outlast the rest of the appliance in normal kitchen use.
The armature turns on the Armature Shaft, which runs in two Ball Bearing supports and ends in the Armature Pinion that feeds the gear drive. A Cooling Fan on the same shaft pulls air across the windings, since a universal motor at 300 W rejects real heat during a long batch. The Motor Mount locates the motor in the lower shell and isolates some vibration. A Thermal Cutoff in series with the windings opens for good if the motor overheats, and a Suppression Capacitor across the brushes damps the radio interference that brush arcing throws off.
Gear Drive
The motor spins far faster than a beater should, so the Beater Gear Drive reduces speed and raises torque. The armature pinion meshes a Helical Gear Pair for the first reduction, then a Helical Worm Gear drives two Output Gear wheels. The two output gears are arranged so the beaters turn in opposite directions and overlap their sweep, which folds ingredients toward the center of the bowl instead of throwing them at the wall. Each output gear sits on a Beater Spindle that ends in a Beater Socket, the keyed receiver an attachment locks into.
The gears run in a Gearbox Housing and turn in four Gear Bushing supports of sintered bronze. The set is packed with food-grade Gear Grease and sealed, so it is filled once at the factory and not serviced. Output at the spindles lands near 600 to 1,400 rpm across the speed range, low enough for folding and high enough to whip cream in a couple of minutes.
Speed Control
The Speed Control Board sets motor speed by phase-angle control. A Triac on the Bare PCB switches on partway through each mains half-cycle, so the motor sees a fraction of the available voltage and runs slower at a low setting. The Speed Selector Switch slide selects between five and nine steps depending on the model, and a Turbo Button bypasses the limit for full power on a stubborn dough. An Microcontroller handles the speed steps and a soft-start ramp that keeps batter from spraying on the first press, supported by SMD Passive (R/C/L) for filtering and timing. A Wire Bundle carries mains and signal between the board, the motor brushes, and the switches.
Housing and Ejector
The body is two molded ABS clamshells, the Upper Shell and Lower Shell, joined with a Fastener Set and trimmed at the nose by the Front Bezel. A Handle Grip of soft TPE is overmolded onto the handle for a secure hold with wet hands, and a Heel Rest lets the mixer stand on its tail between bowls without dripping on the counter.
Beaters release through the Beater Ejector Mechanism. Pressing the Eject Button drives the Ejector Slide, a cam that pushes both attachment shanks out of their sockets at once. A Coil Spring returns the slide and button after release. A Ejector Lockout blocks the eject travel while the motor is running, so a beater cannot be thrown while it spins.
Attachments and Power
The Attachment Set covers three jobs. Two Flat Beater whisks handle cake batter and general mixing, two Dough Hook tools knead bread and cookie dough, and one Balloon Whisk whips cream and egg whites with more wire surface. All share a common Attachment Shaft shank, so any tool seats in either socket. The beaters are stainless steel for corrosion resistance and dishwasher safety.
Mains power enters through the Power Cord Assembly. A Power Cord of about 1.5 m ends in a Mains Plug sized for the local outlet, and a Strain Relief bushing keeps repeated flexing from cracking the conductors where the cord meets the body. A Cord Clip holds the lead coiled for storage. The Indicator LED in the bezel confirms the unit is powered.
