Stand Mixer

Overview

A stand mixer beats, whips and kneads hands-free by driving a tool through a planetary path around a fixed bowl, so the beater sweeps the entire volume without the bowl turning. Its weight and die-cast Body & Housing let it knead stiff dough without walking, and a tilt-back head gives access to the bowl. The classic tilt-head architecture combines a high-torque drivetrain with an interchangeable tool mount.

How it works

Power comes from the Universal Motor, a universal motor mounted along the head. Its high-speed output is converted to low-speed, high-torque rotation by the Reduction Gearbox, a set of helical and worm gears running in grease inside the head casting. The gearbox output drives the Planetary Hub, which is the defining mechanism: the attachment is offset from the hub's centre and spins on its own axis while the whole hub revolves, so the beater traces a planetary path that reaches every part of the bowl.

The Bowl Assembly locks onto a base plate beneath the head, and tools, the flat beater, dough hook and wire whisk from the Attachment Set set, push up onto the hub's shaft and twist into a bayonet socket. To load the bowl the Tilt-Head Stand Mixer mechanism pivots the entire head back on a hinge and latches it down for running.

Speed is chosen on the Speed Control, where a governor or electronic board holds the set speed under varying load, easing a soft start so flour does not fly. Many models add a front Attachment Hub power take-off, a gear-driven attachment hub that runs accessories such as grinders and pasta rollers from the same motor.
