Stand Mixer Tilt-Head Assembly
AssemblyThe tilt-head casting assembly carries the motor head of a stand mixer and provides the pivoting connection used to access the bowl. The head casting is the enclosure, while the hinge pin defines the pivot. A tilt-head design raises the head; it should not be confused with a bowl-lift mixer, whose head stays in place while the bowl moves. KitchenAid design comparison.
The lock lever controls the mechanism that retains the head in its operating position. In this BOM, a locking cam and return spring are separate children, making the distinction between the user control and the retaining mechanism explicit. Their exact shape and engagement are model-dependent; the generic list is not an exploded service diagram.
Head position also affects beater clearance. KitchenAid's troubleshooting guidance identifies a misplaced hinge pin or an attachment contacting the bowl as possible reasons the head will not lock. It also distinguishes a lever's travel from whether the head is actually retained. These are different fault paths, so a locking complaint does not by itself prove that the casting is damaged. Manufacturer troubleshooting.
Casting alloy, hinge retention, spring arrangement and raised-position locking vary by model and generation. Use the appliance's own manual for clearance adjustment and service. This overview explains the assembly boundary; it does not establish interchangeability among heads, pins or lock parts.
