Aroma Diffuser Product
Overview
An aroma diffuser is a tabletop device that disperses essential oils and water vapor into the air using ultrasonic nebulization. Unlike traditional reed diffusers (passive) or heated vaporizers (which denature volatile compounds), ultrasonic diffusers use a piezoelectric transducer vibrating at 110 kHz to atomize a water-oil mixture into tiny particles—typically 1–5 microns—that carry aromatic compounds throughout a room. Many modern models integrate mood lighting via RGB LEDs, creating both aromatherapeutic and aesthetic function.
The technology is silent, efficient (3–8W), and operates continuously or on timer cycles. Essential oils dissolve or disperse in water, and the ultrasonic vibration breaks the liquid surface into vapor. This preserves volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to heat, making diffusers popular in wellness and meditation spaces.
How It Works
Water mixed with a few drops of essential oil fills the Oil & Water Reservoir. The Ultrasonic Nebulizer Plate sits at the tank bottom. An oscillator circuit on the Main Timer & Control Board energizes the Piezo Transducer Disc at its 110 kHz resonant frequency, typically sustained via a feedback amplifier circuit (the Piezo Driver Oscillator).
The piezo disc, mounted in an Piezo Acoustic Coupling acoustic chamber, vibrates with high amplitude. These vibrations are transmitted directly to the liquid surface above it. At the resonance peak, capillary instability develops—the water-oil interface breaks into fine droplets, which rise upward into the Mist Outlet Nozzle.
A Microcontroller on the Main Timer & Control Board controls the duty cycle: continuous operation, or intermittent pulses (e.g., 30 seconds on, 60 seconds off). The same board drives the RGB LED Light Ring, synchronizing RGB colors with diffusion pulses or running independently. Most models offer 1–2 hour countdown timers before auto-shutoff.
An optional Circulation Pump (Optional) recirculates oil from the reservoir bottom back to the top, ensuring even diffusion if oil tends to separate from water. Without circulation, heavier oils may settle.
Power enters via Power Supply—either USB 5V or a wall adapter stepping down AC to 5V DC.
Scent Dispersal and Room Coverage
At 20–50 mL/hour output, a single diffuser treats 10–20 m² effectively (a small bedroom or office). Larger rooms or high-ceiling spaces benefit from secondary units or active circulation (standing fan running alongside the diffuser). Output rate depends on water temperature (room-temp diffusion is slower than warm-water varieties) and oil viscosity.
Essential oil concentration is typically 5–10 drops per 100 mL water. Heavier oil carries longer (better scent throw), but may clog the Piezo Transducer Disc over time. Lighter oils (eucalyptus, lavender) diffuse readily; thicker oils (myrrh, vetiver) require dilution or periodic cleaning.
Electrical Safety and Maintenance
The Float Sensor detects when water level drops below 20%, triggering the Microcontroller to halt ultrasonic operation and protect the piezo from cavitation damage. Over-dry operation can crack ceramic discs or generate excess heat. Most models auto-shutoff after 2–3 hours of continuous use as a safety feature.
The piezo transducer is sealed inside the acoustic chamber; it cannot be replaced by end-users—the entire Ultrasonic Nebulizer Plate assembly is swapped if degradation occurs. In hard-water regions, mineral deposits accumulate on the piezo surface after weeks of use, reducing output. Cleaning involves filling the tank with distilled water, running 2–3 diffusion cycles, then draining—no disassembly needed.
The RGB LED Light Ring operates at low voltage (5V) and poses no shock hazard. LED lifespan is 20,000+ hours, making the LEDs effectively consumable-free.
Design Variants
Premium models add humidity sensors (detecting ambient moisture) to auto-adjust diffusion rate and prevent over-humidification. Smart variants integrate WiFi and app control, allowing remote scheduling via Microcontroller firmware. Some designs nest smaller tanks inside larger decorative vessels (bamboo, ceramic) for aesthetic appeal.
Hybrid diffuser-humidifiers exist, combining ultrasonic misting at high output (500+ mL/hour) with integrated aromatherapy—these consume 15–25W and are positioned as room humidifiers with optional scent, rather than pure diffusers.
Portable battery-powered diffusers (USB-charged) enable use in cars or travel. These are often simpler (single LED color, no timer), consuming 2–3W.
