Slide-In Range

Product

Overview

A slide-in range is an electric cooker designed to fit flush between two runs of cabinetry, with its controls on the front rather than on a rear backguard. The cooktop surface extends slightly over the countertop edges on each side, so the range looks built-in and there is no gap behind the cooktop where crumbs collect. Moving the controls to the front gives a clean line across the back and lets the cooktop meet the backsplash directly. The trade is that the front controls sit within reach of children and must be kept cool, which shapes much of the design.

The range is built from a front-control Cooktop Surface, an electric Oven Cavity heated by the Oven Heating System elements, a front Control System, a Oven Door Assembly, a Cooling System system protecting those front controls, and the Cabinet and Flush Fit with its overlapping edges.

Cooktop

The cooking surface is a single sheet of glass-ceramic, the Glass-Ceramic Cooktop, with an overlap lip molded along each side to bridge the gap to the countertop. Under the glass, a Heating Element radiant coil sits in a reflective Element Reflector Bowl at each zone and heats the glass from below. A Dual-Ring Element offers a small or large ring for different pot sizes, and a Bridge Element links two zones into one long griddle area. Each zone is protected by a Surface Limiter that cycles the element to keep the glass within its temperature rating and drives the hot-surface indicator that stays lit until the glass cools.

Oven cavity

Below the cooktop is the Oven Cavity, a Oven Cavity Liner of porcelain-enameled steel surrounded by a Cavity Insulation blanket that holds heat in and keeps the surrounding cabinets cool. Cookware rides on a Oven Rack set into a Rack Guide, the cavity is lit by the Oven Light, and a Oven Temperature Sensor reports cavity temperature to the controller.

Oven heating and convection

The Oven Heating System system uses three elements. A concealed Bake Element under the oven floor provides bake heat without an exposed coil to clean around, the Broil Element at the roof handles broiling, and a rear Convection Ring Element heats air that the Convection Fan driven by the Convection Motor circulates through the cavity. This true convection setup evens out temperature across the racks and speeds roasting. A Ball Bearing carries the fan motor.

Front controls

The defining feature is the front Control System. Each cooking zone and the oven has a Control Knob on the front fascia, alongside a Touch Display. Behind them the Oven Control Board with its Microcontroller runs the clock, timer, and cooking modes, commanding the Relay Power Board. A set of Relay devices switches the bake, broil, convection, and surface power, while a Door Switch tells the controller when the oven door opens. A Power Supply feeds the electronics and a Wire Bundle connects everything. Because the controls are at the front, the controller reads the oven sensor and modulates the elements to hold temperature without the user ever reaching over a hot cooktop.

Door and self-clean

The Oven Door Assembly uses a tempered Outer Door Glass backed by layers of Inner Door Glass that trap insulating air so the outer surface stays touchable. A Door Hinge on each side counterbalances the weight, a Door Gasket of fiberglass rope seals the cavity, and a full-width Door Handle runs across the front. For the pyrolytic self-clean cycle, a motorized Door Latch locks the door while the oven climbs toward 880 F to burn off residue.

Cooling

Front controls sit close to the oven and the cooktop, so a Cooling System system is required. A tangential Cooling Blower driven by the Cooling Blower Motor pulls room air through the Cooling Air Duct and sweeps it past the front fascia, keeping the knobs, display, and adjacent cabinet edges within safe temperatures even during self-clean.

Cabinet, flush fit, and variants

The body is built from formed Sheet Metal Panel sides and rear. The defining hardware is the Side Overlap Trim lip on each side, which rests on the countertop and bridges the small gap to the cabinet so no filler strips are needed. A Storage Drawer sits at the bottom for cookware or warming, a Leveling Leg at each corner sets height, and a Anti-Tip Bracket anchors the range as code requires. A Fastener Set holds the assembly. Slide-in ranges come in radiant electric, induction, gas, and dual-fuel versions, all sharing the front-control flush-fit format. They are chosen when the goal is a built-in look and a seamless cooktop-to-backsplash line without the cost of a separate cooktop and wall oven.
