Dual-Fuel Range

Product

Overview

A dual-fuel range pairs a gas cooktop with an electric oven in one freestanding body, combining the two cooking methods many cooks consider best for each job. Gas burners give instant, visible flame control on top, where responsiveness matters for searing and simmering, while the electric oven gives steady, dry, evenly distributed heat for baking and roasting. Achieving both means the range needs a gas line and a 240 V circuit, and it carries two separate control philosophies in one cabinet: mechanical gas valves for the cooktop and an electronic controller for the oven.

The range is built from a Gas Cooktop fed by a Gas Manifold and Valves and lit by Surface Ignition and Safety, an Electric Oven Cavity with a Convection System, a combined Control System, a Oven Door Assembly, and the Cabinet, Cooling, and Backguard that houses cooling, storage, and the controls.

Gas cooktop

The top is a gas cooktop with four to six sealed burners. Each has a cast Surface Burner Base where gas from the Surface Burner Orifice entrains air, capped by a brass Surface Burner Cap that shapes the flame. A Burner Seal keeps spills on top of the Cooktop Panel, and continuous cast-iron grates, each a Cast-Iron Grate, let cookware slide across the surface. Burner outputs are graded from a high-output burner for fast boiling to a low simmer burner, set by orifice size and the regulated manifold pressure.

Gas train and ignition

Gas enters at the Gas Inlet Fitting, passes the Pressure Regulator that holds a steady manifold pressure, and reaches each Surface Burner Valve through the Gas Manifold Tube. Because the oven is electric, the gas train serves only the cooktop, which is simpler than an all-gas range. An O-Ring Set seals the valve stems. Lighting and safety come from the Spark Ignition Module firing a Spark Electrode at each burner, a Flame Sensor confirming the flame, and a Flame-Failure Valve that shuts the gas if a flame goes out. The Ignition Harness carries the spark voltage.

Electric oven

Below the cooktop is the Electric Oven Cavity, a Oven Cavity Liner of porcelain-enameled steel wrapped in a Cavity Insulation blanket. Heat comes from a concealed Bake Element under the floor and a Broil Element at the roof. Cookware rides on a Oven Rack in a Rack Guide, the Oven Light lights the cavity, and a Oven Temperature Sensor feeds temperature back to the controller. An electric oven is chosen here because its heat is dry and steady, with no combustion exhaust to vent, which gives more uniform baking than a gas oven.

Convection

The Convection System makes the electric oven bake evenly across multiple racks. A rear Convection Ring Element heats air that the Convection Fan driven by the Convection Motor forces back into the cavity through a Fan Baffle. A Ball Bearing carries the fan motor. Heating the moving air directly, rather than relying only on the radiant elements, removes hot spots and speeds roasting.

Controls

The Control System reflects the split design. Each gas surface burner has a mechanical Gas Control Knob tied to its valve, giving the immediate proportional control gas cooks want. The oven, by contrast, is run electronically: the Oven Controller with its Microcontroller reads the Touch Display and the Door Switch, then drives the Relay Power Board. A set of Relay devices switches the bake, broil, and convection elements, a Power Supply feeds the electronics, and a Wire Bundle connects the parts. The controller closes a loop on the oven sensor to hold the set temperature.

Door, cabinet, and safety

The Oven Door Assembly uses a tempered Outer Door Glass backed by Inner Door Glass panes that trap insulating air, a Door Hinge on each side, a Door Gasket of fiberglass rope, a full-width Door Handle, and a motorized Door Latch for the self-clean cycle. The freestanding body is formed from Sheet Metal Panel sides and rear. A Cooling Blower driven by the Cooling Blower Motor keeps the controls and cabinet cool, especially during self-clean. A Storage Drawer sits at the bottom, the Control Backguard carries the oven controls, a Leveling Leg sits at each corner, and a Anti-Tip Bracket anchors the range as code requires. A Fastener Set holds the assembly.

Variants and use

Dual-fuel ranges come in 30, 36, and 48 inch widths, with four to six burners and one or two oven cavities. Higher-end models add a griddle or grill module in the cooktop, brass burners, and steam-assist baking. They cost more than all-gas or all-electric ranges because they need both utility connections and two control systems, and they are chosen by cooks who want flame control on top and the even, dry heat of an electric convection oven below in a single freestanding unit.
