Wine Cooler Product

Overview

A wine cooler holds bottles at drinking and cellaring temperatures, which sit well above a refrigerator's setpoint and need far tighter control. This is a dual-zone unit: the Dual-Zone Divider & Trim Heat divider splits the cabinet into an upper compartment for whites and sparkling wine and a warmer lower compartment for reds, each tracked by its own sensor and held at its own setpoint.

The Cabinet is a painted steel body over an ABS liner with injected foam between them, fronted by a Glass Door. That door is the defining feature: double-pane glass carrying a UV-Blocking Tint Film that blocks the ultraviolet light which prematurely ages wine, set in an aluminum frame with a magnetic perimeter gasket and reversible hinges. A keyed lock and a stainless pull handle finish the front.

Bottles rest on five Bottle Shelving shelves, beechwood-faced and riding on chrome-plated steel rails so a full row can be drawn out without disturbing the rest. The warm-white Interior Lighting strip lights the contents without the heat or UV of an incandescent bulb.

How it works

Cooling is thermoelectric rather than vapor-compression, which is what keeps the unit quiet and vibration-free — vibration disturbs the sediment in aging wine. The Thermoelectric Cooling system clamps Peltier modules between a cold-side heatsink inside the cabinet and a hot-side heatsink outside it. When current passes through a module it pumps heat from the cold face to the hot face; a circulation fan blows cabinet air across the cold heatsink while an exhaust fan dumps the collected heat out the back.

Because a Peltier cooler can only pull the cabinet a fixed amount below ambient, holding the warmer red-wine zone steady in a cold room would otherwise be impossible. That is why the divider carries a resistive trim heater: when the lower zone drifts below its setpoint, the heater adds a few watts to bring it back up, and an airflow damper balances how much cold air reaches each side.

The Control Board & Sensors board runs the whole cycle. Its microcontroller reads an NTC probe in each zone, drives the Peltier modules and trim heater through switching relays, and shows both setpoints on the display. Setpoints are entered on the Control Board & Sensors capacitive touch panel on the door frame, with no moving buttons to wear out. Mains power enters through the cord and internal harness, and four leveling feet keep the cabinet square so the door seals evenly.
