Electric Cigar Humidor

Product

Overview

An electric cigar humidor is a sealed cabinet that maintains the precise conditions cigars require to remain fresh and smokeable: consistent temperature around 21 °C and relative humidity near 70%. Unlike passive wood humidors that rely on manual water addition and are prone to temperature swings, an electronic humidor uses a Control System to actively regulate both parameters year-round, making it practical for collectors storing hundreds of cigars long-term.

Cigars are hygroscopic, they absorb and release moisture with ambient conditions. At humidity below 50%, they dry out and become brittle; above 80%, they mold. Temperature swings cause the cigar's interior to expand and contract, cracking the wrapper. The electronic approach solves both problems with a sealed Humidor Cabinet lined in Spanish Spanish Cedar Interior, Cooling Unit for temperature, and Humidification System for humidity.

How it works

The Mains Cord draws mains power, which the Low-Voltage Adapter low-voltage adapter converts to 12 or 24 V DC. This powers the Control PCB microcontroller and peripherals.

The Humidity Probe and Temperature Probe mounted inside the cabinet continuously measure conditions and report via the Sensor Cable to the Microcontroller. The operator sets target temperature and humidity on the Setpoint Control controls; the Digital Display shows live readings.

If internal temperature exceeds the setpoint (say, 22 °C), the Relay energizes the Peltier Module thermoelectric cooling element. The Peltier module is a semiconductor junction that, when current flows through it, absorbs heat on its cold side and rejects it on its hot side, the opposite of a normal resistor. The Cooling Fan blown by a small DC motor dissipates heat from the Peltier's hot side through the Aluminum Heat Sink finned aluminum. This pulls heat out of the cabinet, lowering temperature. Once temperature drops below setpoint, the relay cuts Peltier power, and it stops cooling.

When humidity drops below setpoint (say, 68% RH), the controller activates a second Relay powering the Ultrasonic Mister ultrasonic mister. The piezo element vibrates at ~100 kHz, shaking water molecules in the Water Cartridge cartridge into a fine mist. This mist is distributed through the Distribution Tray across the cabinet interior, raising relative humidity. Once humidity reaches setpoint, the humidifier stops.

The sealed Access Door with its Door Seal foam seal and Magnetic Catch keeps air leakage minimal. The Soft-Close Damper damper prevents slamming and heat loss when the owner opens the door to inspect or retrieve cigars.

Cigars rest on Cedar Storage Racks made from Spanish cedar shelves and adjustable height supports. The cedar helps regulate humidity (it's naturally hygroscopic) and imparts subtle aromatics prized by collectors. Shelves can be repositioned on Height Adjustment Pin dowels to fit different collection sizes.

Cabinet insulation, typically 30–50 mm of polyurethane foam between the Outer Cabinet and Spanish Cedar Interior, minimizes heat gain and loss, reducing the cooling and humidifier workload. This extends component life and reduces electricity use.

The thermoelectric cooling approach (vs. traditional compressor refrigeration) is quieter, vibration-free, and has no moving parts except the fan, making it ideal for collection storage. It consumes 60–150 W continuous, a modest footprint for a collector's den or office.

Manual humidors require refilling the humidification medium (sponge, gel, or crystal) every 2–4 weeks; electric humidors work autonomously as long as the distilled water cartridge has water and power is supplied. This reliability over months makes electronic units popular with serious collectors who cannot visit their collection frequently.
