Induction Range Product

Overview

An induction range puts a magnetic cooktop over a conventional electric oven in one freestanding cabinet. Unlike a radiant cooktop it never heats its own surface directly; the Induction Cooktop couples energy straight into the pan, so the glass stays cool except where a hot pot warms it back. Four coils sit under a single sheet of glass-ceramic, each a litz-wire pancake Induction Coil over radial ferrite bars that aim its field upward into the cookware.

Below the coils lives the Power Electronics bay: two inverter boards, force-cooled, that turn 60 Hz mains into the tens-of-kilohertz drive the coils need. Underneath all of it the Oven Cavity is a porcelain-enameled steel box with bake, broil, and convection elements, fronted by the triple-glass Oven Door and fitted with chrome racks. The whole stack mounts on a welded Cabinet & Frame with leveling feet.

The cook drives everything from the Control Panel, a printed glass fascia over a capacitive Touch Digitizer and an LCD Panel, with a master board switching the oven loads and commanding cooktop power levels.

How it works

Each IGBT Power Board rectifies the mains, then switches an IGBT Power Module half-bridge to feed its coil and a series film capacitor as a resonant LC tank. The high-frequency current in the coil induces eddy currents in the steel pan bottom, and the pan's own resistance turns those into heat — the cookware is the heating element. Power level is set by how the inverter sweeps frequency around resonance. Because switching loss is real, a centrifugal Cooling Blower forces air across the IGBT heatsinks, and an inlet EMI filter keeps the switching noise off the house wiring.

Safety and efficiency both depend on knowing what sits on the glass. The Pan & Temperature Sensors watches inverter loading per zone: with no ferromagnetic pan present the coil won't couple, so the board refuses to deliver power, and a thermistor at each coil limits output if the glass under a pan runs too hot.

The oven works like any convection electric oven. The platinum RTD reports cavity temperature, the controller cycles the bake, broil, and ring elements to hold the setpoint, and the Convection Blower circulates heated air for even results. A Thermal Fuse backstops the cavity, and for the high-heat self-clean cycle the Door Lock Motor gearmotor latches the door and a switch confirms it before the cycle runs.
