Food Warming Trolley Product
Overview
A food warming trolley is a mobile heated cabinet used in catering kitchens, hospitals, and large restaurants to keep multiple service dishes hot and ready during meal distribution. The unit features a Heated Cabinet holding multiple Bain-Marie Wells containing hot water—a bain-marie bath design—where stainless steel pans filled with prepared food rest on a Pan Shelving system. The whole assembly rolls on Wheel Assembly castors mounted to a Mobile Base Frame, allowing a single server to move dozens of pre-plated meals from kitchen to dining area at safe serving temperature.
The design separates heat from food: the Immersion Heater warms water, which gently warms the pans from below. This prevents scorching, allows gentle reheating without degrading texture, and maintains consistent temperature across all dishes.
How it works
The operator fills the Bain-Marie Wells with water using the Water Fill Valve and mains supply, up to a safe level monitored by the Overflow Port. Once powered via the Mains Power Cord, the Immersion Heater element energizes, raising water temperature. The Water Temperature Controller continuously monitors temperature and cycles the heater on and off via the Relay, holding the water at the set point—typically 70 °C for gentle warming without overcooking delicate dishes.
Prepared food pans (standard Gastronorm size) rest in slots on the Pan Support Grid framework, sitting just above the water surface. Heat radiates up through the water and pan bottoms. The Heated Cabinet walls are thick with Thermal Insulation, typically 50–100 mm of polyurethane foam, minimizing heat loss and keeping the trolley surface cool to touch despite internal water at 70 °C.
When service is needed, the operator pulls the Access Door, selects pans, and pushes the trolley into the dining area. The Wheel Assembly swivel castors allow easy navigation through kitchen doorways and corridors. Back in the kitchen, the Temperature Knob adjusts temperature if faster reheating is needed, and an Heating Indicator shows whether the heater is actively running.
At end of service, the Drain Stopcock at the well lowest point empties the water, which drains into a sink or floor drain. The Control Panel switch cuts all power, and the thermostatic Thermal Fuse provides backup cutout if the thermostat ever fails, preventing damage if the trolley runs dry.
