Overview
A paper jogger is a simple but effective desktop machine that uses rapid horizontal vibration to align and compress stacks of loose paper. Used in print shops, binderies, mailrooms, and offices, the jogger quickly aligns papers that have been collated or mixed into neat, rectangular stacks ready for stapling, binding, or packaging.
The machine consists of a motor-driven eccentric crank or weight that oscillates a spring-suspended tray at high frequency (1,200–1,800 oscillations per minute), shaking the paper stack side-to-side and forward/backward. As the paper tumbles and realigns with each vibration cycle, sheet edges drop together into perfect alignment without the labour and time of hand-tapping stacks.
How it works
When the operator presses the On/Off Switch, the Thermal Overload allows current to flow to the AC Motor. The motor runs continuously, rotating the Eccentric Crank (an off-centre weight or counterbalance) at 1,200–1,800 rpm. The rotating crank drives the Crank Connecting Pin connector, which translates the eccentric rotation into sinusoidal back-and-forth motion.
The Crank Connecting Pin connects to the Tray Assembly, suspended on Leaf Spring leaf springs and Elastomer Shock Mount elastomer isolators. As the crank pushes and pulls, the entire tray oscillates horizontally at 20–30 Hz, shaking the paper stack. The Tray Back Lip prevents papers at the back from spilling off the rear edge.
The rapid vibration causes the paper stack to settle and compress naturally: loose sheets slip past each other, rotating slightly with each shake cycle, until all leading edges align vertically and all trailing edges are flush. After 1–30 seconds (adjustable via the Timing Control), the Timer Integrated Circuit automatically de-energizes the Relay, stopping the motor. The operator lifts the aligned stack from the Tray Base Plate.
The Vibration Isolation Foot elastomer pads on the base reduce vibration transmission to the desk or floor, preventing noise and avoiding disturbance to other work in the area. The Safety Guard encloses the tray and crank mechanism, and the Interlock Switch prevents operation if the guard is opened, protecting hands and loose clothing from the moving parts.
