AV Receiver

Product

Overview

The AV receiver is the central switching, processing, and amplification hub of a home-theater system. It accepts up to seven HDMI sources, decodes object-based surround formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, applies room correction, and drives nine speaker channels plus two subwoofer outputs. A single 8K-capable HDMI link carries video to the display while the receiver extracts and renders the soundtrack.

How it works

Mains power enters the Power Section, where a high-VA Toroidal Transformer feeds the Main Power Board. Bridge rectifiers and large bulk capacitors produce the high-current rails that the amplifier draws on transient peaks, while a separate standby supply keeps the logic and network alive in low-power mode.

Incoming video and audio arrive at the HDMI Board. Its switch/scaler IC routes the selected source, passes 8K and 4K/120 video to the display, and strips the audio bitstream. That bitstream crosses to the Preamp / DSP Board, where the DSP decodes the surround format, applies room-correction filters derived from the setup microphone, and bass-manages the channels. Multi-channel DACs convert each channel back to analog before the volume and buffer stages.

The line-level signals then feed the Amplifier Section. Each of the nine Power Amp Channel modules is a discrete complementary push-pull stage bolted to a shared extruded heatsink, with a Vbe-multiplier bias network that tracks temperature to hold idle current steady. Amplified outputs land on the I/O Panel and its gold-plated binding posts.

The Network Board adds streaming and app control over WiFi, Bluetooth, and wired Ethernet, while the Front Panel Assembly presents the status display, weighted volume encoder, and setup-microphone jack used during automatic calibration.
