Projector

Overview

The projector is a laser-phosphor DLP home-theater display. Rather than a replaceable lamp, it uses a bank of blue laser diodes exciting a spinning phosphor wheel to generate white light, which a digital micromirror device modulates into a 4K image. The laser source keeps brightness stable across a 20,000-hour life and eliminates the warm-up and cool-down cycles of lamp projectors.

How it works

The Light Engine is the optical core. An array of blue Blue Laser Diode emitters illuminates the Phosphor Wheel, whose spinning disc converts part of the blue light to yellow; combined, these form white light. The beam passes through an integrator rod and fly-eye optics that homogenize it, then a Color Wheel sequences red, green, and blue segments in time with the imager.

That sequenced light reaches the DMD Imager Module, built around a DMD Chip. Each micromirror tilts thousands of times per second, reflecting light either into the projection path or away from it; the proportion of "on" time sets each pixel's brightness. Four-phase pixel shifting steps the micromirror image to deliver 4K resolution from the sub-4K panel. A TIR prism folds the illumination onto the chip, and a bonded copper heatsink carries away its heat.

Modulated light exits through the Projection Lens Assembly, a multi-group zoom lens with motorized focus, zoom, and lens shift for flexible installation. The Mainboard handles video processing, scaling, and HDMI/WiFi input, feeding timing to the imager, while the Laser Driver Board regulates constant current to the diode bank for dimming and HDR tone mapping. The Cooling System system of dual blowers, heat pipes, and a filtered intake keeps the laser bank and imager within their thermal limits.
