HMI Network and Fieldbus Interface

Assembly

The network interface carries commands and operating data between an HMI touch panel and a machine controller. The screen can show a value only after the communication system delivers it and the HMI project interprets it. In this BOM, the physical-layer transceiver handles electrical signaling, the network connector provides the cable interface, and passive components support the surrounding circuit.

The connector, electrical interface, and communication protocol are related but distinct. A socket that accepts the cable does not prove that the two devices understand the same messages. Siemens' HMI communication manual describes configured HMI connections over appropriate PROFINET or PROFIBUS interfaces. The device configuration remains part of the connection, not something supplied by a generic transceiver alone.

Protocol alternatives in the summary should therefore be read as alternative implementations. They do not mean that one illustrated board supports Ethernet, PROFIBUS, and CANopen simultaneously. Siemens' PLC communication guide likewise makes communication capacity dependent on the HMI device.

For the mechanical power press example, this page explains where the operator interface joins the control network. It is not a network design or approved replacement-board specification. Select against the actual controller, supported protocol, connector pinout, firmware, and machine documentation; do not infer compatibility from the connector's appearance.
