Robotic Bartender Cell Product

Overview

A robotic bartender cell is a self-contained machine that takes a cocktail order at a kiosk, mixes the drink with metered precision, shakes it when the recipe calls for it, and presents it at a pickup window — typically in 45 to 90 seconds. The format took hold on cruise ships and in airports and casinos: venues with high drink volume, long service hours, and an audience that treats the glass-walled robot as entertainment. Throughput of 80 to 120 drinks per hour matches two to three human bartenders, with pour costs accurate to the millilitre.

Architecture

The cell is organized around a ceiling-mounted Delta Robot Arm. A delta robot suits this job better than an articulated arm: all three Servo Motor drives sit stationary on the Delta Base Plate, so the moving mass is just the Upper Arm Link links, the carbon-fibre Parallel Link Rod rods, and the Cup Gripper. The parallelogram linkage keeps the gripper platform level at all times — a kinematic guarantee, not a controlled behaviour — which matters when the payload is an open cup of liquid moving at up to 2 m/s. The two-finger Cup Gripper uses a Pressure Sensor in its grip loop so it can hold a flimsy plastic cup and a stainless Shaker Tin with the same hardware.

Liquid path

Spirits live in the Bottle Rack System: up to 48 bottles hang inverted in quick-release Bottle Holder collars, each feeding a food-grade Dispense Valve by gravity. A pour is a timed valve opening verified by a shared-line Flow Meter, giving ±2 ml accuracy — tighter than a free pour and fully logged, which is why operators love the inventory math. Per-bottle Bottle Level Sensors flag near-empty positions on the staff dashboard before a recipe fails mid-drink. Juices and syrups arrive through six Mixer Pump peristaltic lines from bag-in-box stock under the counter; peristaltic pumps are the standard choice because the liquid only ever touches replaceable tubing. Ice comes from an insulated Ice Hopper via a stainless Ice Auger that meters portions by counted rotations.

A drink, step by step

The guest orders and pays at the POS Kiosk — an LCD Panel with Touch Digitizer over a Payment Reader; alcohol service still requires a staff age check, assisted by the ID Check Camera. A Cup Denester cams a single cup off a 50-cup stack, a Cup Sensor confirms it, and the arm carries it under the dispense positions while valves and pumps fire in recipe order. Stirred drinks go straight to ice and garnish; shaken recipes are poured into a tin, which the arm docks into the Shaker Station. There the Shaker Clamp locks the tin into an orbital cradle isolated on Coil Spring mounts, the shake runs 8 to 12 seconds, and the drink returns through the Strainer Unit into the serving cup. The finished drink rides the Delivery Turntable to the Pickup Window, which is interlocked so it cannot open while the arm is in the delivery zone.

Control and safety

A Control Cabinet houses the Motion Controller — delta inverse kinematics are closed-form and cheap to compute, so one Compute SoC Module handles motion, recipes, and the guest-facing show lighting on the Rack Lighting strip — plus four Servo Drive amplifiers and the Relay bank switching valves and pumps. The cell is a standard machine-safety design: guests are separated from moving parts by Glazing Panel polycarbonate walls, and every service door carries a coded Door Interlock feeding a Category 3 stop circuit in the safety Microcontroller. Opening any door halts the arm and de-energizes the valve bus.

Cleaning

Hygiene is the operational tax of the category. All tubing in the Tubing Manifold supports clean-in-place: at closing time the system flushes every line with rinse and sanitizer solutions into the Drip Tray drain, a roughly 20-minute automated cycle. Bottle spigots and shaker tins are removed for washing by hand — the parts of the machine that still need a human at the end of the night.
