Welding Robot Cell

Overview

The welding robot cell is a self-contained, fully guarded station for automated MIG/MAG arc welding. A six-axis manipulator carries the torch through programmed weld paths while a servo positioner turns the workpiece to keep seams in the optimal flat or horizontal position. Perimeter fencing, a light curtain, and door interlocks keep operators clear of the arc and moving robot, and a source-capture extractor pulls welding fume away before it reaches the room.

Construction

The manipulator is the 6-Axis Robot Arm, a six-joint articulated robot whose axes each use a Joint Actuator of servo motor, precision RV/harmonic reducer, absolute encoder, and fail-safe brake, ending in a torch mount. Motion is commanded by the Robot Controller Cabinet, which holds the motion CPU, six servo drives, the power supply, I/O, and a teach pendant with a deadman enabling switch.

The arc package is the Arc Welding Equipment: an inverter power source, a servo-driven four-roll wire feeder, a gas-cooled MIG torch with contact tip and gas nozzle, a filler-wire spool, and a shielding-gas regulator. The Workpiece Positioner is a single-axis servo turntable that rotates the part on a slotted faceplate, and the Tooling Fixture locates and pneumatically clamps each workpiece for repeatable fit-up.

Safety and environment are handled by the Safety System of welded-mesh fencing, light curtain, door interlocks, safety relay, and E-stops, and by the Fume Extraction Unit unit that draws fume through cartridge filters. The Cell Controller PLC and HMI sequence the whole cell, while the Cable Dress Pack routes weld power, shielding gas, and signal lines along the arm in an articulated energy chain.
