Premade Pouch Filling Machine Product
Overview
A premade pouch filler packages product into pouches that arrive already made — printed, gusseted, zippered, bottom-sealed — leaving only the top open. The machine grips each pouch by its edges, opens it, fills it, and welds the top shut as the pouch rides an eight-station carousel. Splitting pouch-making from filling this way costs more per pouch than form-fill-seal from rollstock, but the converter's pouch quality (registered print, perfect gussets, press-applied zippers and spouts) is hard to match on a forming machine, and changeover between pouch styles is a recipe change rather than a forming-collar rebuild. Snack foods, pet food, coffee, frozen food and sauces dominate the application list.
How it works
Flat pouches stack in the Pouch Magazine, a belt-advanced inclined magazine holding a few hundred at a time. Each cycle, the Pick Arm presses its Suction Cup onto the face of the lead pouch, peels it off the stack, and swings it upright into the waiting Gripper Pair. The Pouch Pick Sensor checks thickness on the way — two pouches stuck together would jam the seal station — and the Vacuum Generator supplies the suction from plant air.
The Gripper Carousel is the machine's skeleton: eight gripper pairs on the Carousel Plate, indexed by a globoidal Cam Index Drive so each pouch dwells at a station while the work happens. Station 1 loads, 2 opens, 3 fills, 4 settles, 5 (on zipper pouches) closes the zipper, 6 deflates, 7 seals, 8 cools and discharges — the exact assignment varies by builder, but the rhythm is universal: every index, one finished pouch leaves and one flat pouch enters.
Opening is a two-force trick. The opposed Opening Suction Cups grab both faces of the pouch and the Opening Cylinder pair pulls them apart; simultaneously, the stationary Gripper Cam Track narrows the gripper spacing so the top edge can bow open instead of staying stretched taut. The Air Blast Nozzle then fires a jet down the throat, ballooning the body and popping the bottom gusset into its standing shape. The Open-Mouth Detector sensor verifies a full opening — a half-opened pouch must skip filling, otherwise product cascades over the machine.
Filling depends on the product. Granules and snacks drop from a multihead weigher above the machine through the diving Filling Funnel; powders meter through the servo Auger Doser from the Product Hopper; liquids and sauces dose through the Liquid Filling Valve. The funnel matters more than it looks: product dust or splash on the inner seal area is the leading cause of leaking pouches, so the funnel guides everything below the seal line. The Settling Vibrator then taps the pouch so contents settle and the headspace clears.
Sealing
At the seal station, the Deflator Plates plates squeeze excess air from the headspace (or a snorkel draws vacuum, or gas flushing displaces oxygen for modified-atmosphere packs). The grippers re-spread to pull the top edge drum-tight and flat — a wrinkle here becomes a leak channel — and the Seal Bars, held at 140–200 °C by cartridge Heating Element pairs under Seal Bar Thermocouple control, clamp the laminate at about 4 kN for 0.5–1 second. The weld fuses the pouch's inner sealant layer (PE or PP) through itself. One index later the Cooling Bars press the still-soft seam between chilled faces, setting it flat and glossy; sealing without cooling leaves a wavy seam that wicks.
The grippers then release over the Drop Chute and the pouch lands upright on the Outfeed Conveyor. Every pouch crosses the Checkweigher Cell; underweights and overweights tip out through the Reject Flap.
Operation
The PLC Controller stores a recipe per SKU — gripper width, opening stroke, fill target, seal temperature and dwell — selected on the LCD Panel touchscreen. Width changeover is motorized on better machines: gripper pairs re-space themselves and the magazine rails follow, taking format change under 15 minutes with no change parts. Duplex machines run two pouches per station and double output to roughly 120 per minute; beyond that, rotary premade machines give way to multiple lanes. The whole machine is built for food-plant washdown: Machine Base and covers in 304 stainless, Guard Interlock switches on every guard door, and product-contact parts removable without tools.
