Industrial Screen Printing Press

Product

Overview

An industrial screen printing press lays a controlled film of ink onto a flat substrate by forcing ink through the open areas of a stencil. The stencil is a fine mesh stretched in a frame and coated with hardened emulsion that blocks ink everywhere except the image. A squeegee drags ink across the mesh under pressure, shearing it through the open cells onto the part below. Screen printing puts down a far thicker ink film than offset or digital methods, which is why it is used for textiles, signage, membrane switches, printed electronics, glass, and industrial labeling where opacity and durability matter more than fine detail.

The press is built around a few cooperating subsystems. The Frame and Print Bed carries everything in fixed alignment, the Screen Holding and Registration holds and registers the stencil, the Squeegee and Flood Carriage runs the squeegee and flood bar, the Print Stroke Drive powers each stroke, the Substrate Handling and Vacuum holds the part flat, the Off-contact and Peel Mechanism controls screen release, and the UV Curing Dryer cures the ink. A Pneumatic System system and a Control System tie the motion together.

Screen, registration, and off-contact

The image lives on the Mesh and Stencil, a polyester mesh tensioned in the Screen Frame and coated with emulsion that is exposed and washed out to open the image. The frame is held by the Screen Clamp against registration blocks, and three Registration Adjuster screws shift it in x, y, and rotation to align the print to the part within about 0.05 mm. The screen does not lie flat on the substrate. A set of Off-contact Screw adjusters hold it a small gap above the part, typically 1.5 to 4 mm, so the mesh touches only under the squeegee and snaps back behind it. Without this off-contact the wet ink would stick the mesh to the print and smear it. The Screen Lift Hinge raises the whole screen for loading and inspection.

The squeegee and flood stroke

A print is two motions. First the Flood Bar drags a thin layer of ink across the screen with the mesh lifted, filling the open cells without printing. Then the Squeegee Blade, a polyurethane blade in a holder, presses the mesh down and shears the ink through onto the substrate. Both ride the Carriage Plate on Linear Guide Rail rails. The Pressure Adjuster sets blade force, the Angle Adjuster sets attack angle, and a Pressure Sensor reads the actual force so the controller can hold it constant. Blade hardness, angle, speed, and pressure together set the deposited ink thickness, so these adjusters are the main print-quality controls.

Stroke drive and substrate handling

The Print Stroke Drive moves the carriage with a Servo Motor turning a Ball Screw through a Drive Coupling, with Limit Switch sensors marking the ends of travel. Servo drive lets the operator program stroke speed and dwell for each job. Underneath, the Substrate Handling and Vacuum keeps the part still: a Vacuum Pump pulls air through the Vacuum Manifold and the perforated Print Bed, locking flat stock down so it cannot lift with the mesh. A Side Guide sets the sheet position, and a Take-off Arm arm peels the printed sheet off the bed and passes it to the dryer.

Peel and curing

As the squeegee passes, the Peel Bar lifts the trailing edge of the screen progressively, driven by the Peel Cylinder and returned by a Coil Spring. This rolling peel releases the mesh from the wet print cleanly instead of all at once. The printed part then runs through the UV Curing Dryer. A Conveyor Belt belt carries it under the UV Lamp Module modules, which cure UV ink almost instantly by photoinitiation, or under Heating Element panels that drive off solvent in solvent-based ink. A Lamp Reflector focuses lamp output onto the belt and a Exhaust Fan removes ozone and heat.

Materials and ink

Screen frames are extruded aluminium for stiffness and light weight. The mesh is woven polyester rated by thread count: a coarse mesh near 43 threads per cm lays heavy ink for textiles, while a fine mesh near 180 threads per cm holds detail on glass and electronics. The squeegee is polyurethane chosen by durometer for the ink and substrate. Inks range from UV-curable acrylics for graphics to conductive silver pastes for printed circuits and ceramic frits for glass. Matching ink rheology to mesh and squeegee is the core of the process, which is why the press exposes so many Pressure Adjuster and Angle Adjuster controls.

Variants and use

Flatbed presses like this one print sheets and panels. A cylinder press wraps the substrate on a rotating drum and is faster for posters. A carousel press indexes several screens around a turret so one part takes several colors in registration without reloading. All share the screen, squeegee, off-contact, and curing subsystems. The Control System runs the sequence through a PLC and a Operator HMI, while the Safety Circuit circuit with its E-stop Button buttons stops the carriage if a hand enters the print zone. Screen printing holds its place wherever a thick, opaque, durable ink film is needed across textiles, industrial parts, and printed electronics.
