Backpacking Stove

Product

Overview

The backpacking stove is a compact canister-top burner that threads directly onto a self-sealing isobutane/propane fuel canister. At roughly 73 grams it serves solo and small-group cooking where pack weight is the dominant constraint. The unit pairs a brass Burner Head with a precision needle Control Valve Assembly, three folding Pot Support Assembly, and an integrated Piezo Igniter, all carried in a drawstring Stuff Sack.

Rated output is about 3,000 W, enough to bring one litre of water to a rolling boil in under four minutes in still air. The needle valve gives fine simmer control, so the stove handles slow cooking as well as fast boiling.

How it works

Fuel leaves the canister through the Canister Connector, which screws onto the standard Lindal valve and depresses its pin to release pressurized gas. An inlet check valve in the connector blocks backflow when the stove is unthreaded. Gas then passes the control valve, where a tapered needle seats against a metering orifice; turning the folding wire handle withdraws the needle to set flow anywhere between a bare simmer and full output.

Metered gas accelerates through the jet nozzle into the venturi of the burner head, entraining primary air on the way. The gas/air mixture fills the mixing tube and emerges through the drilled flame-port ring as a stable circle of flame. On cold days a Preheat Tube routes fuel past the flame so any liquid draw vaporizes before it reaches the jet, holding output steady as canister pressure falls.

The three serrated support arms fold out around the burner to cradle a pot and grip its base, then fold flat against the body for packing. Lighting is one-handed: pressing the igniter button strikes a piezo crystal whose high-voltage pulse jumps from the spark electrode to ground at the flame ports. The cast aluminium Base Body ties the connector, valve and burner into a single rigid gas path.
