Pallet Scissor Lift Table
ProductOverview
A pallet scissor lift table raises a loaded pallet from floor level to a comfortable working height so that operators do not have to bend or stretch to reach goods. The table consists of a platform deck mounted on a pantograph scissor frame, which sits on a base frame bolted to the floor. A hydraulic power system drives the lift, and an electrical system sequences the cycle from a foot pendant.
These tables are common at packing stations, palletizing cells, machine-feed positions, and order-picking areas. The pit-mounted versions sit flush with the floor so a pallet jack can roll a load on without a ramp. Capacities run from around 500 kg for light assembly work up to several tonnes for drum and coil handling, with the 1,000 to 2,000 kg band covering most warehouse pallet work.
Scissor geometry
The lifting action comes from the pantograph. Two pairs of scissor leg weldments cross at a center pivot pin and spread apart as the table rises. One end of each leg is pinned to the frame; the other end carries a track roller that runs along a track. As a hydraulic cylinder pushes the rollers inward, the legs scissor open and the deck climbs. This geometry multiplies a short cylinder stroke into a long vertical travel, but it also means the cylinder force needed is highest when the table is fully lowered and the legs are nearly flat, because the lever arm is shortest there. Sizing the cylinder for that low-angle worst case is the central calculation in scissor lift design.
The legs are box-section S355 structural steel to resist the bending and buckling loads. Each pivot turns on a self-lubricating bronze bushing so the joints need no greasing, and the track rollers turn on sealed ball bearings for low rolling resistance.
Hydraulic drive
The hydraulic power pack holds a gear pump driven by a three-phase motor, an oil reservoir, and a suction filter. When the operator presses the foot pendant, the motor runs the pump and oil flows through a pilot check valve into the two lift cylinders. The cylinders are single-acting plungers: oil pressure raises the load, and gravity lowers it. To descend, a solenoid opens a flow control valve that meters oil back to the tank at a controlled rate, so the table settles smoothly instead of dropping.
A pressure relief valve caps the system at about 250 bar to protect against overload, and each cylinder has its own chrome-plated piston rod running through an oil seal and an O-ring set to keep the system tight.
Control and electrics
The control box carries a small microcontroller board, a motor contactor, and a power supply for the low-voltage logic. The operator works the table from a foot pendant so both hands stay free for the load. Two travel limit switches cut the motor at the top of travel and tell the controller when the table is fully down. An emergency stop button kills power to the contactor in any fault.
Safety features
European lift tables are governed by EN 1570-1, which drives most of the safety system. The biggest hazard is the shearing gap under the descending platform, so the perimeter carries pressure safety edges: trip strips that stop and reverse the descent the moment they touch an obstruction such as a foot. Folding toe guard bellows seal the scissor gap as the table moves. For servicing, a maintenance prop swings into place and mechanically locks the deck up so it cannot fall even if the hydraulics are opened. Each cylinder feed line carries a hose-burst velocity fuse that snaps shut if a hose ruptures, holding the load in place. An overload pressure switch reads system pressure through a pressure sensor and blocks lifting if the load exceeds the rating.
Variants and use
Beyond the single-scissor table described here, makers offer double and triple-scissor stacks for higher reach, tilt tables that pour a load toward the operator, and turntable decks that spin a pallet so all four faces can be reached without walking around. Stainless versions serve food and pharmaceutical lines. The same scissor and hydraulic principles scale up into vehicle lifts and dock levelers, so the platform is a building block across a lot of material handling equipment.
