Trolling Motor Product

Overview

A trolling motor is a small, quiet electric drive that mounts on a boat's bow and moves it precisely at low speed for fishing. Unlike the outboard that powers the boat between spots, the trolling motor handles fine boat control: holding a casting position, creeping along a weed line, or following a contour while the angler fishes. This unit is a 24 V bow-mount with 80 lbf of thrust, an electric autopilot, and GPS anchoring that uses satellite position and a compass to hold the boat on a fixed spot against wind and current.

The boat clamps to the bow through the Bow Mount Bracket, which carries a spring breakaway so the unit kicks back instead of breaking if the propeller hits a rock or stump, plus a lever to deploy and stow it. The Shaft Assembly is a composite tube that drops the drive below the waterline; its depth collar sets how deep the propeller runs. At the top, the Control Head holds the electronics, the steering motor, and the GPS anchor brain, and takes commands from the foot pedal and wireless remote. Power from the deep-cycle batteries reaches the motor through the Power Cable Assembly, and a Battery Indicator on the head shows remaining charge.

How it works

The angler steers with the cabled foot pedal or the handheld remote inside the Control Head. Those inputs feed the control board, which sets propeller speed by pulse-width modulation and rotates the whole shaft through a geared steering motor for heading changes. When the angler presses spot-lock, the GPS Anchor Module takes the current GPS fix as a target; its compass supplies heading, and the board continuously nudges thrust and steering to pull the boat back to that point.

Thrust comes from the Lower Unit, a sealed underwater motor that spins the Propeller Assembly through the shaft. The drive motor is fully potted and sealed against water, with support bearings and a shaft seal keeping the rotating output dry. The weedless propeller is held by a nut and backed by a sacrificial shear pin that breaks before the drivetrain does if the prop jams; a wire prop guard keeps weeds and debris off the blades. Running on 24 V instead of 12 V lets the motor deliver the same thrust at lower current, so the wiring stays cool and the batteries last longer over a day on the water.
